I specifically chose to do a new rendition of this song, and the main reason for doing this is because I have a special connection with this Mandarin pop song. In my memory, this is the first Mandarin song I ever listened to!

I still remember the time when I was still very young; my mom especially hired a teacher from Beijing to come to our house and teach her Mandarin. Apart from learning traditional pinyin and how to pronounce things properly, this teacher also said to my mom that she should listen to more Mandarin songs on a casual basis because it will help her learn faster! As a result, my mom would play songs sung by Teresa Teng every day, and the impression I had of this song was particularly memorable. This song was originally sung by Wan Sha Lang, a singer from the Beinan national minority in Taiwan. Back in those days, many other singers had performed this song as well, including Teresa Teng Li-jun, Steven Liu When-zheng, You Ya, and Liu Jia-chang. Teresa Teng’s version of the song was the most wide-spread and well-known to all!

The melody of this song has a very light-hearted and happy feeling; it’s very infectious! When I sang the vocals for this song, I totally set myself free and sang. I just let the passion and enthusiasm run free; I didn’t feel worried and it allowed me to be carefree. It felt like that there was a mass of energy being released from the depths of my heart! I also spent a lot of time and energy with the music arrangements of this song, using methods to bring back the style of the 70’s, as well as adding my own different vocal styles and harmonies, making this entire song sound even more passionate and carefree! We hope that when the music starts playing, everybody will feel exhilarated with joy! When I did the promotional photo shoot, the style and concept was based on bringing back the trends of the 70’s, and I deliberately imitated the unique poses that were used in photo shoots during that era. If you want to see the photos then you must keep an eye out on 12530.com and my official website!

    Producer Zhang Ah-dong’s Words:
So cool! Very refreshing! When I heard Xiao Mo’s (Karen’s) vocals, I could totally sense that she sang with her heart wide open. Her passion is just so hard to resist! The music arrangement was very skillfully done. In this song, I felt that the old song had a kind of energy. Furthermore, the way Karen performed this song was like the many different characters you see in a movie, directing expression and emotions into each of the songs. It’s like combining song and human, and creating a totally new chemical reaction. I felt particularly touched by this.
