Jovelyn Fuego (aka Joves) began her musical journey in June 2004 as a solo acoustic Singer/Songwriter and played her first acoustic set at the RockIt Festival in 2004. She met Chris Collins (bassist) at a Jam night in Wanchai in 2005. Together, they played for the first time as JovesPlus (with Lego Shum as their drummer) at a Benefit gig in July 2006, then at the HK Rockit Festival 2006’s unofficial acoustic tent, with Barny Bruce on Percussion. In February 2007, the band played at the final show at Edge for Underground 38!, with special guests Mike Salcedo on drums (Shepherds the Weak) and her brother Joseph Fuego on Trombone. In July 2007, the National Geographic Channel launched the FX Asia Channel and promoted her song "U Wud B Happy" as a tribute to the popular YouTube FREE HUGS campaign. In September, Joves and bassist Chris Collins won the Gold Prize at the 2007 Tom Lee Acoustic Band Competition, with Chris winning an additional award for Best Individual Performance. They performed on RTHK's TV show "The Works" in October, as well as at the Tom Lee Carnival outside the Cultural Centre in Tsimshatsui, and at Cyberport in Pok Fu Lam for the Hong Kong 2007 Jam Music Festival in November. Joves & Chris entered the 2008's Tom Lee Acoustic Band Competition and won SILVER PRIZE with Jovelyn winning the Best Individual Performance award for her original song "Master". Review from Underground 38: This Underground night has unearthed some pleasant gems - Joves (or Jovelyn to her friends) brings easy listening to the Underground. And she also brought lots of her friends (fans?) along as the cheers got louder and louder. Her band of musicians were of a high calibre and included her brother on trombone. It was a nice laid back set and Jovelyn has one of the best female voices I've heard in a long time. Mark Emerson

Review from Lamma-zine: "Joves does a 4-song, 20 minute set, and Kevin is quite right to be impressed. If you’ll forgive an old hippy trip down the grassy knolls of memory lane, she reminds me of several other accomplished 60’s/70’s singers. There’s a lot of Joni Mitchell in the words and song construction, while the slightly scatty jazz vocals recall early Rickie Lee Jones ("Chuck E’s In Love"-era) and possibly the late Lena Horne. The higher reaches remind me of Minnie Riperton’s single "Loving You" as well. I ask Annette, drummer with the Shotgun She-Ras, her opinion and she thinks of Lauren Hill or Macy Grey. The third song has a drifting, lilting melody while her final song is a tour de force. Heavy, acoustic, power chords over vocals that are part Robert Plant, part higher range, Janis Joplin. It’s the money shot song that perfectly climaxes this short set." - Nick the Bookman, July 8th, 2006
