FIX Global is a quarterly financial magazine that just went through a bit of creative rebranding. In the process of going through a face lift, I was commissioned to do a few illustrations for the latest issue. All illustration concepts by Simon Narramore.
Article called 'Lighting Asian Dark Pools'. This is an homage to illustrator Brad Holland. This was done completely digitally (the color isn't represented that well here).
DMA & The Buy Side. This one was also done on the computer.
Double page spread on 'Positioning for the future'. Quirky.
It was a nice challenge to create illustrations that are different than what I would normally produce, but that's the excitement of freelancing.
Also, my prints have been doing quite well in Scotland.
Went to very cool exhibit at HK Heritage Museum a couple weeks ago with my good friend Jessica Louie (she did the CAN video in my last blog entry). It's very rare in HK to have this opportunity to see such work, amazing job on HK Design Centre's part on bringing them over for the show and giving a talk!
I'd post more pictures, but if you're in HK, you should probably go to see the work yourself!!
Been a bit busy recently, will update with more stuff soon!
A very good friend of mine just did an animation project with Clean Air Network. I went to school with Jessica Louie in HK, as well as Parsons The New School for Design with her in NYC. She is definitely one of the most interesting people I know. She's a vegan environmentalist surfing yoga monster with anime and visual rock tendencies and she eats durian with her bare hands.
What I love about this animation is that not only does the message follow through, her voice as a designer is very prominent in the drawings for this animation.
I always thought her work was great, but on a commercial level I wasn't sure how it would translate, as the artist inside her comes out very heavily on her work. But then it reminds me of something one of my instructors once said, a philosophy that David Carson lives by:
"If you take care of the work, the work will take care of you."
A friend of mine showed me this. I think it REALLY applies to the design world. I think most artists on AnD will understand what this video is saying:
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2a8TRSgzZY It's possible to commission creative work for very little money, whether it's music, art, acting, etc. But what those clients seem to forget is that you get what you pay for, right?
I'm an illustrator who recently moved back to Hong Kong. I currently make pictures for a living. Some of my clients have included Marvel Comics, Asia-City Publishing, Emi's Gold Label Records, ElleGirl, Sugar club and Oxfam Tokyo.
I'm inspired by the sort of pretty that makes your stomach hurt.
