When I first auditioned for @methodproductions_sg’s That’s the Story of My Life I really didn’t know what the hell I was signing myself up for. I ended up writing my own story inspired by local literature (#buysinglit) and standing in a random corner of Little India on my own, telling the story I wrote (in character) to groups of ticketed audience members as well as curious onlookers, learning to think on my feet as I responded to whatever the audience threw at me in this immersive and interactive performance. .

Resident loiterers at each of our corners of Little India started recognising us after weeks of rehearsals and shows (didn’t help that we wore the same outfit every week because that was our costume). Some thought we were nutters, others thought we were scammers, policemen on patrol gave us weird looks... and we had to balance all that while making sure our paying audience were well entertained and guided on the right path through all the stations, and coming up with contingency plans on the fly if there was a sudden downpour or if the groups got lost or overlapped with one another. . Needless to say, IT WAS CRAZY. Crazier than my story of protection and paranoia where I played a mosquito-fearing, survey-collecting, uni student facing an unplanned pregnancy. But somehow we pulled it off because we tried and screwed up and tried again. I believe I speak for all of us when I say all these challenges stretched us and made us grow so much as performers and theatre makers. I’m so glad to be a part of this wacky bunch of troopers that stuck through it all from start to end. And for all that, I am grateful. ♥️ . PS If anyone was wondering, my storytelling area was the fitness corner at Blk 637 Veerasamy Road. If you ever pass by there, try asking residents about the weird girl who kept stopping people to do mosquito surveys and babbling about her unplanned pregnancy. I don’t think I’m ever returning within the next 5 years... .
