Lao Jiu the Musical《老九》音乐剧 is everything you'd hope an original local classic could be and more. Everything hit home for me- the music, the sheer Chineseness of the family, how relatable the story was, how tight and deft the choreography and staging were, how great the cast were at everything they did. One moment I'd be laughing and the next moment just ONE SINGLE LINE FROM A SONG made my overactive tear ducts start leaking. I don't even... So happy to see friends on stage doing their thang in this amazing production!!! ❤️ •

The tunes were so catchy I bought the CD (the last time i bought a CD of Mandarin songs was more than 10 years ago so this is saying something), resolving to improve my Mandarin back to the way it was in primary school when I could rattle off tongue twisters and 相声 scripts and regularly be called on to demonstrate my expressive oral exam capabilities LOLLLL things are so different now ?... #laojiu2017
