Lots of exciting things coming up, the first being an opening slot for the British singer Adele at Bimbo’s tonight (May 22). It’s a sold out show, and Bimbo’s is probably the best place one can play in SF in my opinion. Wish me luck!

My second album “Ulysses” is mixed to analog tape. I spent 2 days in January and 3 days in April at Tiny Telephone with the amazing Scott Solter, who has recorded/mixed Spoon, the Mountain Goats and John Vanderslice to namedrop a few. I think he’s a mad genius, as well as a hilarious guy. I can’t believe how good he made the songs sound; he told me his goal was to “push the sounds outside the speakers” and that’s exactly what he did. I learned so much from him in 5 days… The next step is to get it mastered and the artwork/design together. I commisioned my friend Nathalie Roland to provide the artwork for the album, and I’m really happy with what she came up with. Putting it all together is designer Brian Kobashikawa aka “BK”. Can’t wait to show it to you.

In conjunction with this album release, I’ve asked some of my favorite musician friends to interpret and record a song off of Daylight Savings for a cover album that’ll be available for download in August. So far, Odessa Chen and SF Jazz staple Adam Shulman have submitted 2 covers that have floored me and set the bar pretty high for this project. Stay tuned…

On the gig front:

June 19th @ Amnesia for a performance w/ the band that I recorded Ulysses with, the aforementioned Odessa Chen and a great band from Seattle called Grand Hallway

July 19th I play on a moving double decker bus! it’s a project called Audio Bus, and I’m providing the soundtrack to a 30-40 minute busride around San Francisco. If this sounds enticing to you, there are tickets available- but seats are very limited! 2 sets: 6:45 and 8pm

Right after that, I hop on a plane to NYC to get ready for a show out there at Piano’s on July 23rd (wed). If you’re in the area, or have friends out there please tell ‘em to come out! I’m opening the show for one of my favorite singer/composers Michelle Amador and a great group called East/West Quintet. Michelle is also submitting a song to the Daylight Savings cover album… I’m very excited about all this!

Sorry for the long update. More stuff coming up, but I need to rest my fingers and brain…

Till the next time,
