Now, we all live in this world together. Why don't we aim to live harmoniously? Cause people are people. They think they are their ego, they believe the Hollywood tale and will take all and any means necessary to get to the top. Which is "wack". Whether it's using people and friends, being two-faced, born with tunnel vision, blind ambition etc. Having these characteristics makes you even more blind to recognize. We see this a lot in our industry and Hong Kong it's no exception.
But, I think the worst is when someone straight up "bites" your style and claims it as theirs. Then, they don't give you respect and instead slander and take jabs at your career and reputation. I've had this experience in the past and seen it done to friends and associates. Behaving this way is "wack." Another example of "wack-ness" is using people/friends around you for your own ends. Granted we all use each other, however there are ways to do it with mutual respect. Being 'machavelian' serves the immediate goals, but, in the long run you may die on the battlefield. If you disrespect people, don't be surprised it will come back to you. Take that inner journey, learn who you are and be yourself.
Now, being yourself may lead you to become "goofy" in some aspects. However, there are loads of really good, stand-up folk that are "goofy" and not "wack." Being "goofy" is far better than being "wack". Don't settle for "goofy" though. Cause "goofy" won't get you in the league or contention of becoming "the Sh*t" (if that's your game).
So, think about it; don't 'bite' other people's steez (i know the saying great artist steal--I don't have an opinion on that). Come up with your own. Keep the "wack-ness" to a minimum and come through with the respect and love for everything you do. We all make mistakes and let our 'ego' out of control sometimes, but recognize that and learn from it. Peace, bless and success!
Definitions from the Urban Dictionary:
BITE:
To rip off another person's style, especially with respect to music or fashion. From early hip-hop culture. "My cousin was biting when tried to get the same sneakers as me after i told him i was getting them."
GOOFY:
An adjective for those odd, opinionated, and inevitably, yet tolerably, awkward members of social circles that straddle the line between love and hate more than about any other stereotype. Usually caught up in some form of bizarre fashion motif, be it contrasting, bright colors or some retro gig and always outspoken on everything from their latest underground music that no one else is privy to or how some radical politician is doing, these eccentric types are usually very well endowed in intellectual type intelligence, but completely lacking in common sense. "That goofy hippie libertarian is still going off about how he couldn't understand why all the hippies at the Phish show were pissed he was raving about a republican candidate."
WACK:
1. Hip hop artists (MCs, DJs, B-boys, etc) who are typically aspiring and full of themselves, yet their style is an insult to real hip hop because it (1) copies another artist's style, (2) is mainly driven by commercial aspirations, or (3) is basically incompetent with no hope of improving. Wack = weakly executed flashy moves in place of true substance. "Even the wackest rapper can be a commercial success with a major label behind him."
2. Something that just plain sucks, or isn't cool at all. Lame.
