I’m back in (the suburb of of) Paris since April 16th, and I
just finished to write for the French mag Mad Movies/Impact, a 3-page
article about Milkyway Image, the production company founded by Johnnie
To 杜琪峰and Wai Kai-fai 韋家輝, which produced recently “Tactical
Unit Comrades in Arms 機動部隊─衕袍” (screened a few weeks ago
at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, and soon to be screened at
the Far East Film Festival) and “Vengeance 復仇” (Official
French theatrical release on May 20th, 2009).
During my stay in HK, I had the chance to interview one afternoon, some
of the Milkyway Image creative team like the scriptwriters Yau Nai-hoi 游乃海and Au Kin-yee 歐健兒and most of all, Law
Wing-cheong 羅永昌, director of two of the five Tactical Units sequels (The Code 機動部隊─警例and Comrades
in Arms), who was also executive director on the original PTU movie.
Law Wing-cheong works with Johnnie To for a very long time (he started
at TVB as well), so I basically interviewed him about his whole carreer during
100 minutes (translation included). The scriptwriters were kind of busy, so I
just had around 10-15 minutes with them.
In between, I also interviewed during half an hour the “Hong Kong
Frenchie Boy” Vincent Sze especially about his part in Tactical Unit –
Comrades in Arms, his first movie as a lead (beside Simon Yam 任達華, Maggie Shiu 邵美琪and Lam Suet 林雪) where he plays
a good but bad tempered cop. He’ll also apparead in Vengeance as the
son-in-law of the main character played by Johnny Hallyday.
After that, I also had a brief chat with Yuin Ding-chan 丁雲山(production
manager/supervisor of quite a lot of Milkyway Image movies) about the next
Milkyway Image projects - including the new Soi Cheang movie, Accident (ex-Assassins 暗殺) andWritten By, directed by Wai Kai-fai
etc... - to complete my article.
