More Shenzhen fun: Handstand Boy of Dong Men and bling iPhone covers from China

I took a quick trip over the border last Sunday night to Shenzhen.

On the way out of the subway I spotted this:

yes, that is a kid doing handstand in the middle of the subway exit with a McDonalds cup out in front of him... in China you're competing with millions of other people, so just regular panhandling is not enough, you gotta differentiate yourself some how... in this case by feats of strength!

One of the reasons I came over here was to get a new iPhone battery charger. Turns out the 'solar' one I bought earlier this year is not so great, so I wanted a better one.

While I was looking at iPhone chargers, I was quite impressed with the extensive collection of decorative iPhone covers:

lots of 'bling bling' deco-den covers nowadays.

the new trend seems to be graphics on the back. they had some with Ed Hardy designs on the back (as in the picture), and also some with Transformers characters (not pictured).

of course I couldn't help but buy one... in this case for my roommate's iPhone:

looks OK, right? not bad for US$3! The report is that it has the added benefit of being extremely easy to find in ones' purse. :-P

nice and bumpy too, so it doesn't slip out of your hand.

i suppose the jewels will fall off sooner or later.... but at these prices, you can just buy a new one. :-P
