We've got revolution on our hands. Zogby has Obama LEADING in California by 4 points in the latest poll. He was down 13 only a week ago. Down four 3 days ago.
Meanwhile, this article about TRE captures the film beautifully and, in the interview that follows, captures me at this insane point in my life both as an artist and a political activist.
Yesterday was another long day, starting with canvassing for Obama in the historica Adams area of Los Angeles. Highlight was a half hour conversation (you're not supposed to stop for that long but I had to) with two older African American men who were hesitant to vote for Obama. They knew surprisingly little about him, and talked of Hillary's experience as their reason for leaning her way. I filled them in on Barack's Civil Rigths background, and how he used his elite law degree to give back to the community (unlike most others who went into corporate law). They said that Barack being African American did not make them more or less likely to vote for him, except that they wondered whether an African American man could win. I explained to them that there is a new generation of leaders entering the political process, and that we ARE ready for a Black President, in fact we are yearning for a President who represents the American of the 21st century. Combined with leaders from the past, such as these two gentlemen, who have not given up on the promise of the Civil Rights Era, we will form a coalition based on the highest ideals this nation has always striven to achieve. I felt like when I left these men where seeing a new day, and not using the past to judge the limitiations to our future. Meanwhile my friend Andreas, a Latino filmmaker and musician, was canvassing the other side of the street. He spoke to Latino voters in Spanish and said he convinced four people to switch from Hillary to Barack.
After that, Andreas and I worked with another new friend Loni to edit United For Obama YouTube videos we shot the day before.
After that, I did two q/a's at "TRE" theatrical release at Sunset 5, including a nice get-together with old friends including hosts Asian Pacific Americans For Progress.
After taht, I went to the Asian Americans For Obama party hosted by Kelly Hu. I'll post footage from that if I don't drop dead from exhaustion before the day is up.
