DK Update

Awwww...a few of you were so sweet to write me for a DK update. You must have been worried that perhaps DK had brought a legion of his friends and had eaten me during the night (think: those shelled beetles in The Mummy).

OK -- for those of you who don't know, DK is a 3-inch American cockroach (Periplaneta americana Linnaeus) that has been pestering me on and off for the past month. He only comes out late at night, at the exact same place in the kitchen, and just lingers around on the wall or helps himself to whatever goodies are in my recycling bin.

Here's an update -- DK made an appearance the night after I shot him with TSRK 2000 (see previous blog). This proves he may be alive not dead (you like that?). However, I didn't see him on the second night. I should mention that the weather cooled dramatically all of a sudden, plunging nearly 10 degrees Celsius in a 24-hour period. Since cockroaches are creatures of the tropics, they don't care much for cold weather.

So, it could be that the colder temperatures have forced DK to warmer pastures. OR perhaps DK sustained mortal wounds that have caused him to perish behind my washer/dryer.

The third theory is this -- I had some relatives stay with me for a week and since some of the more senior persons in the group were hard of hearing, they were REALLY LOUD ALL THE TIME. Perhaps DK didn't like the noise...

Simon -- DK stands for Dai Keung ("Big Strong"), a contrast to the generic Chinese name for cockroaches (Siu Keung or "Little Strong").

MissScarlett and Machiato -- Yes, hope it's "bye bye" for good.

Chung -- Screw the laundry exchange! I'll do a movie deal!

Pat -- that is not encouraging but thank goodness I have not seen more than one. PHEW!

May be it spun itself a cocoon and is about to undertake a metamorphosis into a half man half roach being. Kinda like the scientist in Monster Vs. Alien. You can even work out a deal with the evolved DK to do your laundry in exchange for living behind your washer.

ohhh man!~....that little bugger DK!! I seriously hope that after suffering an injury from the TSRK 2000, the extremely cool temperatures, and your lovely relatives making their statements, that giant bug would have moved out (maybe next door) and away from the healthy recyling bin!!! (^_^).....

4th Theory: DK decided, since it's cold, he should hibernate like a bear (since he's almost the same size)... and found a cozy spot in your hard of hearing relative's luggage *waves bye-bye* =D

Desmond (蘇頌輝) is a host of TVB Pearl's lifestyle and luxury-living show Dolce Vita. He is also an English and Cantonese speaking events and show emcee.

Desmond now stands in front of the camera after having worked behind it for three years at ABC, Inc. in New York. There, he worked on shows such as The View, The Bachelor, All My Children, and Miss America. While living in New York, Desmond was also involved with Second Generation, a non-profit theater company devoted to bringing Asian American stories to the world's stage.

In addition to his TV and emcee work, Desmond is also an etiquette consultant who helps individuals and companies build confidence through the practice of etiquette (www.njtrf.com). A die-hard fan of those who are polite and well-mannered, he believes that you can never say "please" and "thank you" too many times.

A native of Hong Kong who has been away most of his life, Desmond is glad to be back and part of the 'alive not dead' community.
