I made my first trip to Cambodia in January 1999.  At the time, my experience was caught up in the temples at Angkor, getting up way to early to capture that elusive morning light.  Only later did I learn that the light is nicer for longer in October and November.

great warm tones in this picture... I love especially all the contrast you found with the different pictures -- it tells an amazing story.

Difficult to say about finding this so empty these days.  I imagine it is not so hard considering people can no longer go to the top to view the sunrise.  If you stare real hard, you can make out a person or two in the windows and you can get eye strain.  The problem now is they set up a stage and bleachers in the back for evening light and laser shows.  Yes, Angkor Wat is going the way of Disneyland.  Sigh.  I don't know if the nightly performance will be permanent, but if it rakes in the money, I suspect it will be.  Tickets were selling for $60 when I was there in November.  Ouch.
