keep on keepin' on

Things at work have been stressful and problematic. They're problems that have been there for weeks and months, but I'm good at ignoring the bad and focusing on the good parts of life. But when more bumps in other areas rear its ugly head, everything turns into a Hulk Hogan theme song: "it comes crashing down and it hurts inside". Sometimes it results in me getting into Travis Bickle mode. I don't mean Travis Bickle-like as in I'm gonna go out and shoot pimps (LOL HARVEY KEITEL) but I get into this can't sleep, late night walks kinda dude. Shit, I'd go into a porn theater if there was one in HK.

But not this time. Call it maturity, or call it Danny-Glover-I'm-too-old-for-this-shit, but no. I'm not letting it phase me. John Cena style--you can't see me. But I couldn't have done this alone. I had help.

Thank you basketball, music, and Mr Tisdale for keeping me on track to keep on keepin' on again.

Props to Parappa too. I haven't forgotten you or your motto, dog (omg cleverest pun ever. Parappa is a hip hop canine rapper...and i called him dog...which works in the hip hop sense and the fact that he's a canine. hahahah!)

The Mr Tisdale I'm referring to is former basketball player and jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale, who died last week after a battle with cancer. You can read about it here in this ESPN story.

Reading it got me teary-eyed. It puts everything into perspective. I'm tired of being fucking emo and getting sad over shit. When you see a story like WT, it's eyeopening and inspirational. WT ain't the only one. My buddy Chang came back from Iraq without his legs. He was the first person to slap some sense into me. He's the strongest person I know. I've seen him a dozen times after the Iraq incident and not once did he ever show signs that he was down. He remained active, he smiled, he lived. He's a fucking soldier.

This part of ESPN's story on Wayman Tisdale touches me the most...

Tisdale learned he had cancerous cyst below his right knee after breaking his leg in a fall at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 8, 2007. He said then he was fortunate to have discovered the cancer early."Nothing can change me," Tisdale told The Associated Press last June. "You go through things. You don't change because things come in your life. You get better because things come in your life."His leg was amputated last August and a prosthetic leg that he wore was crimson, one of Oklahoma's colors. He attended an Oklahoma City Thunder game April 7 and later that month was honored at the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa. During the ceremony, he spoke about his cancer, saying

"In my mind, I've beaten it." Cancer may have taken his life, but it didn't take his spirit. He did beat it.

You're a stronger man than most of us, WT.

Oh and BC... congrats on being a father soon. I can't believe you're gonna have a daughter...you were like a little bro to me then and you still are. Even though you're light years ahead of me in the game of life right now. You're an inspiration too.

Brian Sau Chi (2:05:07 AM): yeah, i'm a lucky guy. I'll be 26 in June, married and have a career(?) and 2 kids and a dogWhat more can a guy ask for? BSC FTW.

By the way, it gets tiresome reading my blog and I'm breaking sentences and paragraphs midway to make some obscure WWF, NBA, De Niro, or Rocky reference huh? Well blame Bill Simmons, he's been writing like that for 15 years and he made it. So I'm convinced being a geek and ranting about shit you like CAN land you a gig eventually.
