Olympics and Politics

As we get closer to the Olympics in August everyone is gearing up for probably one of the most exciting events in the world.  I even got a call from the Chinese Embassy they want to do a big public demonstration of Wushu and Taiji to draw attention to the Beijing Olympics.  But it also brings out the naysayers and politicos........lots of people calling for the boycott of the Games because China has many human rights violations, then there of course are the Falun gung Cultists, and now the Tibetan Freedom Movement.......while I can sympathize with their plight...keep your politics out of the Olympics!!  Human rights violations..........what do you call the War in Iraq and Afghanistan?  Boycotting the Olympics has never changed anything other than deprive athletes who train their whole lives for this event.  The Olympics is not about politics....it is a time where we can suspend those differences and act as humanity in friendly competition...it's what the world should be.  Politics merely divide people.....who says it brings us together......let's see what happens to the Democratic Party....can they pick up the pieces once someone is selected or will the candidates snub each other and divide the Party so the Republicans can win again?!  You can look at this year's US Wushu Team Trials...........this was the most athletes to take part in any tryouts given by the USAWKF.......and that was because there is a hint of getting to perform during the Olympics............this is the most support that sad organization has garnered.....it is their political agenda that has lost them the respect and suppport of the entire US Martial Arts community.  The bid to put Wushu in the Olympics began 1986..........and even then wushu is not even a demonstration sport...it's only a side event.......though that's progress....and also politics.   Yes, I realize many people will say well their  cause is more important..........that leads to being so far left and radical that you become right conservative..old yang becoming yin and vice versa...it leads to extremism........you can't see the forest from the trees.  A little peace and friendship will go a long ways in the world...leave the Olympics out of your political causes.  There are other channels and venues for your protest!!  Cya!  Peace!
