More Lion Dancing

Well, as I said Lion Dancing hard to come by nowadays....so I was quite jazzed to have a chance to perform for a wedding at the Asian art Museum.......and if you haven't been there lately check it out.....big show right now is the samurai armor of Japan.......beautiful......but martial.....especially the swords.....not only great craftsmanship.........but especially good pieces of artwork in their own right.   Chinese often sell copies of these but....they can copy the exterior look.....but the quality of the medal just doesn't quite match.  the sword makers of china can make gaudy swords....but they are completely functionless....so heavy as to be useful only as a paperweight.......or the opposite so light as to lack any martial spirit to it.........

Waiting is always part of performances...but it gives time to relax and catch up with friends on the team.  Time for stretching!

Jared modelling his newly designed buddha uniform...he combined elements of Beijing Opera with the traditional taoist robes to create a unique costume.

Ely on the other hand was the Buddha Monkey........acombination of buddhist robes....and the rest will be up to him to play the monkey.......Jared and I tho were discussing the need for us to create a set of Monkey robes for Ely......tho a mask and crown would be pretty good!  Ely styling!!

Finally, time to get started.......plenty of stairs on the way up to the Samsung Court were the wedding party was.

Monkey greets Buddha...as old friends meet to greet the wedding guests.

The Lions wishing the couple great harmony.  Jared and I came up with a special surprise for the wedding couple......a routine based on a Lotus flower and a box........which in Cantonese means......a long union...basically a play on words...but gave us a chance to demonstrate both martial as well as cultural skill.

In between all of this I should mention was a short wushu performance......but it was one of the smallest spaces we have performed in....I had asked for chairs for the bride and groom...instead the museum staff put a table in the middle of the dance floor along with the wedding cake.  But everyone did a great job and made adjustments!

Afterwards it was time for dinner and a little desert.............this was at 100% a HK fusion and desert place.......

Elissa one of our lion dance heads...decided to try...Have a Nice Day........nothing lkie getting a sugar high!!

It was a night for everyone to remember.......hopefully this is a sign things are getting better?  On that note tho I am sorry to say that the 5th Tai Chi Festival.....that we had announced and were to perform at......has a slight gliche......the sponsor pulled out. Boo!  So the organizers have scrambled around to try and still have it..so it will still be held but only at the Far East Cafe in Chinatown frfom10-3:30pm.........and unfortunately, if you don't have a ticket it is already sold out.  So I will see you if you are there otherwise next time!!

Ok, gotta go..........today will be first class for Calwushu...havern't gone to East Bay since they worked on the Bay Bridge....so I"ll take a look today at what they did.  Cya all!!
