A typist...

...I, tragically, am not.I'm terrible with emails and blogs because it takes me about three and a half times longer than the average person to hammer out a response.A friend marveled at my latent inability the other day, telling me that I was the only person she knew that didn't know how to type.Ouch. Yes, please pour more salt into my wound.I remember when we were kids in elementary school a teacher implored of us to take typing classes when it was later offered as an elective, because it would serve us in the modern world for the rest of our lives...Yes, of course it will! And of course I shall!
And then I believe I signed up for underwater badminton, or some other equally compelling and useful elective.So fast forward all this time, and in fact, here I am now- sitting in the middle of this modern world, trying to learn to type without looking at the keyboard:I jsurt (FAIL) can't seem to be consistent ensounf (FAIL) to wean myseld (FAIL) off the need to diveryt (FAIL) my eyeballs from the keuboard (FAIL).So, back to seventh grade for me- one repetitive keystroke at a time. I've found a program in the Mac store that looks to offer salvation from the damnation of being a type cripple for the rest of my days- it's not sexy, but I've got high hopes for it-Lesson one, let the good times roll:
But damn, you'd think I'd at least have a ferocious underwater badminton game to show for my misspent youth...

Last night I had dinner with family at a terrific restaurant along the coast in Malibu, and the view didn't disappoint-
However, it is December, and we had to call for backup- and the staff was kind enough to provide us with some blankets to cover up in as we sniffled through our meal.
But my favorite parts of the evening were when my seventeen-month old niece would randomly tap her chest, and declare: ...happy...I'm happy!
Now, even if you're not the type to gush over babies, you might have to be a robot to not find delight in her simple declaration of good living-
Of course, she's only a year and half old- not yet burdened by the thoughts of making her way through the world...no bills to pay, no heartaches to endure, no worries about her future. She just offers her uncluttered homage to living life in the present.
Of course, I suppose it's also possible she was just saying: ...hungry...I'm hungry!
Hmm...

You never forget your first.

Wow.
This is my very first blog entry, ever, anywhere.
And to be honest, maybe I'm feeling some pressure to say something clever.
Maybe.
And maybe I'm hoping that since I'm new here on Alive not Dead, that whoever happens to stumble across my profile will see something in my perspective that interests, inspires, or just plain amuses them.
And then maybe I'm hoping, if I'm lucky, that we'll find a way to tell a good story sometime, somewhere, somehow.
And you know what?
In the meantime...
Something clever.
