Kawase Naomi’s Koma explores the ties that bind two families in a Japanese village; acclaimed director Hong Sang-soo typically ponders gender relations in Lost in The Mountains; and Lav Diaz abandons his penchant for ten-hour films with Butterflies Have No Memories, wherein the people left behind when a Canadian mining company abandons a polluted island meet a Canadian visitor.
