Sigh of relief...

I just finished the first pass on my final draft of Rooks (working title) and I’m happy to announce that the stressing and nail biting is over. The final draft was well received and the comments were positive. I surprised a few people including D.Y. Sao, who plays the lead in this project and I can’t wait to lock the scrīpt. I still have some polishing to do but that’s minor adjustments, I’ve leaped over the first of many hurdles and I’m excited. To my fellow Writer/Directors out there I commend you on tackling the unbeara...Read more

Late night Cravings...

The fam bam is out performing (Hula) at a show and I’m home alone retooling my budget for my latest project (Rooks) starring D.Y. Sao. I’ve already had a nice healthy dinner and for some strange reason, I’m craving the special number 2, spicy ramen noodles from Orochon (LA). Ok, to put things in perspective, the project (Rooks) I’m working on takes place in the Dotomburi District of Osaka, Japan. I’ve been doing months of research on the lifestyle and culture. I’m listening to several J-Pop, and Japanese hip hop artist and I’ve surroun...Read more

Mind over matter?

I was up till prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /6am cranking out my budget sheet for my new project called “Rooks” (working title) when the weirdest thing happened to me. I fell asleep at my computer for a split second and when I opened my eyes I was typing a story about another upcoming project? I rubbed my eyes and looked at the Excel spreadsheet and laughed, I realized that I was dreaming about that story and was typing it into my spreadsheet. The grammar was all warped but I could still make out ...Read more

Random Ninjas @ the "ROXY"

Recently, DY and I were invited to watch a local band called “Random Ninjas” play at the ROXY in prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /Hollywood. I was looking for unsigned indie bands to showcase on our upcoming movie soundtrack, and came across this band on the webwww.randomninjas.comI later found out that one of the band members (Funk Masta Ninja) is an old Kung Fu brother of DY… small world. Random Ninjas is an Asian-Americ...Read more

It's Official

Yes, I’ve been tagged and the “D” in D. Miles is not longer a secret! I don’t remember the last time someone called me by my full name and when I saw it posted, I didn’t recognize it at first. That brings up an interesting topic; I wonder how many artists on AnD use stage names instead of their given name? In Hollywood it’s common for artists to use stage names because some of them have weird names and others prefer catchy names for example; Bruce Lee/Lee Juan Fan, Jackie Chan/Chan Kong-Sang, Jet Li/Li Lian Jie, Jaime Foxx/Eric Bishop, Demi...Read more

Director's Chair...

No I’m not referring to the very informative ezine by Peter D Marshall, which I highly recommend to every indie film maker or the famous interviews of pioneers, movers and shakers of the industry. I’m talking about a funny incident that happened to me while filming a DVD promo for a Hula dance troop. I was setting up the scene with my DP and out of nowhere a Chinese/Filipino elderly woman sat in my (Director) chair. Now I’m from the old school and I was taught to respect your elders, but my chair was directly in front of the video vil...Read more

Finally back to the grind after an amazing weekend at the 26th annual SFIAAFF! First off, I would like to thank my partner in crime D. Y. for making the trip hella fun! We had one adventure after another just trying to get to our hotel. Can anyone tell me what the hell the deal is with the street called "Hengen Berger?" We drove around in circles at least 3 or 4 times before we noticed that all the streets were named Hengen Berger! No Hengen Berger East, West, North or South... just plain old Hengen Berger? After circling back into the air...Read more

Dynamic Duo!

I was talking to a friend of mine about a project that D.Y. Sao and I are currently working on called “Rookz” (Working Title). Half way through our conversation another friend chimed in calling us the new “Dynamic Duo” which I thought was cool until I remembered how quickly I chaff from leather and tights! Ironic, how much I love the thought of being a superhero with amazing powers, I probably wouldn’t last two seconds in any of the original costumes. I prefer to keep my current powers of imagination because I rule all in my domain!
