Hello and Welcome,
First of all, I would like to thank you for visiting my very first personal web page! My name is Zen Shane Lim and I am pursuing my childhood dream in the entertainment industry. My intention with this site is to share this fun journey with you. The industry is a tough pursuit, so I think the adventure should prove interesting for the both of us.
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where I continue to work and reside. Beginning in 2001, I officially started on my path as a professional actor working on Film, TV and Stage productions. I continue to have the great pleasure of working with very talented artists on inspiring and rewarding projects.
As an Asian-Canadian male in this industry, I'm fortunate to have been given the opportunity to perform as a lead stage actor. Other than life itself, it is my opinion that there is no better teacher than the stage for an actor. Further, I've had the rare experience of playing a romantic Asian leading man in several of my theater productions. Yes...romantic.
It is my hope that one day, such roles for Asian males will no longer be considered a rarity. Like most Asian males of this generation, positive representation in mainstream North American media is rare and almost non-existent. We are often portrayed as asexual nerds, gangsters, kung-fu masters...etc. Don't get me wrong. These roles can certainly make stories entertaining. Trust me, Bruce Lee is my childhood hero and I would LOVE to do an action film myself one day. But how about one where I'd ALSO have a love interest? My point is, there simply isn't a balance of multi-dimensional roles for Asian males in mainstream media. Think about it: When's the last time you saw an Asian "North American" male kiss a WOMAN on screen? How about a North American-born Asian leading man?
As you might gather, one of my key motivations in this industry is to contribute to the positive representation of the North American Asian male. As an actor, I realize that I am also at the mercy of writers and producers who have the power to create the multi-dimensional roles that I seek. With this realization, I am developing myself as a writer and studying the art of business in an effort to empower myself and others. I know that I cannot do this alone. It's my hope that I can gain some community support along the way. One of the key reasons I decided to create a profile here.
I've always loved the art of story-telling. I find the craft of acting both fascinating and therapeutic. Movies have always been a medium of comfort for me.
My intention in this life is to contribute to good causes greater than myself. There are many. To do "the work" to the best of my ability. To be a part of the peaceful "process of positive change". To inspire an audience. Entertain. Make them laugh, cry, scream, think...
