About Me
Wendy Seo-Ling Cheng is writer/filmmaker/songwriter who graduated with a BA in English Literature from Cornell University and an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts in filmmaking, where she received a fellowship and was advised by the likes of Christine Choy (Who Killed Vincent Chin), Spike Lee and Hampton Fancher (Bladerunner). During school, she also co-produced and collaborated on a number of short films, in varying roles as cinematographer, co-producer, actress, and composer, which have won awards at the NY Director's Cut Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, the Nashville Film Festival, and the HiMom Film Festival.
While living in Beijing, Wendy published articles with periodicals like the China Daily, Le Weekly, and Mme. Figaro China. While in NYC, she has published articles with Asianavenue and Theme Magazine.
Also while in Beijing, Wendy wrote songs, sang and played guitar for a band called Hahatuzi. After their first show at CD Cafe, they were immediately asked to share the stage with the popular Secondhand Roses for a monthly BMW sponsored concert, and Warner China inquired about the rights to Wendy's song "Wo Ai Ni," to add to an album they were producing for her favorite Chinese actress at the time, Zhou Xun.
Her thesis film, Moon Lady, premiered at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival 2008. She is currently writing a short script set in Beijing and expanding another short film for which she won a screenwriting grant, into a feature film.
