Announcement

  • Finally started really reading "Walden." According to Thoreau's "Economy," changing clothes should more reasonably happen at important junctures in life; similarly to molting, or leaving a chrysalis.

I believe watching really crappy movies in a really crappy setting would be a great growing experience. Sort of like Bikram Yoga, it's painful and you want to get out of there but you feel great afterwards and appreciate what you have around you...you know, like IMAX with excellent sound

'Can you imagine having to watch really crappy movies in a really crappy setting?'

    I could actually!!! ^^

I saw the clip of Paranormal Activity and I think it looks good for a Blair Witch type of movie. And I think what they're saying here is also true.....there is now certainly more choices for the indie filmmaker to choose from on how to spread their work. The only question now is a case of volume.....how many people actually get to know your work via the rooftop screenings and will it ever get a general release?

I like the idea of more outdoor theatres. I saw an article once about an outdoor theatre in the woods someplace in Europe where the seats and screen were really blended into the woody background. Or - something like that anyway.  I'll have to find an article about it. There are lots of rooftop screenings in Brooklyn. I went to a cool movie screening in a refurbished auto repair garage in Beijing once. Can you imagine having to watch really crappy movies in a really crappy setting? That should be an alternative to jail, some new form of rehabilitation.

I am glad to see filmmakers becoming creative and not waiting for traditional distribution avenues to open up.  But some company-created buzz is not going to work if ultimately the movie does not live up to the hype.  People will come not to trust this type of promo any more than the traditional methods.  What I would like to see is chaper first run movie experience.  If we can have summer film outside events why can`t we have cheap and even somewhat uncomfortable movie experiences in a Chautauqua tent setting---even if it is in an old factory or a parking lot or a rooftop.  Something unstructured.
