----------------
Walter Gjergja is 37 and has studied Kung Fu WuShu since age 13; today he is Disciple of Grand Master Shi De Yang, descendent of the 32nd Shaolin generation with the name Shi Xing Mi. For this rare traditional discipleship, and the many study stays in China at the monastery, he is considered among the foremost western experts of Shaolin culture, protagonist of numerous articles and reportages, international demonstrations and teaching events.
Walter has also achieved university degree and master, has worked as adviser and teacher in various fields, and is among few westerners to have obtained official Shaolin Teacher certification following examinations held in China.
After beginning to practice Kung Fu WuShu in 1985, in Italy, Walter then traveled for 14 years, from 1989 to 2002, studying in Asia (with many study stays at Shaolin) and Australia. In this period he achieved demonstration successes internationally, collaborated with event and media productions, and developed important projects in various fields.
During the decade in which he also competed, 1987 - 1997, Walter has obtained wins and placements in numerous national and international championships in Italy, Australia, Hong Kong, China, France, in categories of forms and of combat.
Walter has studied with various Masters, among whom the monks teachers of the Shaolin WuShu Guan at the Shaolin monastery, the famous warrior monk Shi Xing Hong, and other illustrious Masters in Cina, Australia, Italy and France.
During one of the stays in Shaolin, Walter has had the opportunity to meet Master Shi De Yang; the Master initially accepted him as student, then as direct student, and finally, after years of study and friendship, as formal Disciple, descendent of the 32nd Shaolin generation with the name Shi Xing Mi. The rare traditional cerimony, performed in the Shaolin temple with the presence of elder monks and relatives of the Master, has formalized the entry in the Shaolin genealogy and the creation of an inscindible bond, considered as that of family.
In 2004 Walter founded his first school, Shaolin Wuseng Houbeidui - Italy (Shaolin WuShu Guan Italy), in Milano, today the only international branch of Master Shi De Yang's school in Shaolin, with which also shares the name. As well as teaching in the school daily, Walter manages various media, organizational and humanitarian projects related to Shaolin culture, holds periodical lessons at university faculties, important events and other schools of martial arts, in Italy and abroad, and is the protagonist of documentaries, articles and reportage.
He always continues in parallel his learning of traditional Shaolin culture via study trips to the monastery and by hosting every year in Italy Master Shi De Yang.
