This is the first wedding i attend to this year, congratulations to the lovely couple kristie and ben. Due to visa difficulties, the hosts have chosen shenzhen Interlaken as their wedding location. Like the rest of u folks, i have never heard of such a place before. Upon arrival, only then i realise how vast the resort is, its like acres of a plateau hidden in the mounts, and it is only 40 min away from city center. In terms of facilities, they have a respectful church area for occasions like wedding etc, an 18 hole golf course, a theme park mainly for botanic plants (resembles disney but only has a hot air balloon ride), an adequate onsen/spa aqua treatment area enough for hours of entertainment, colossium and of course, the hotel. I was going to mention the single room rates but then i dont want this to be like a commercial. The only down side is that the hotel service is still pretty 'fresh', as in they are unaware of the international standards, so that may cause trouble to some, u know, for the girls mostly lol. I didnt care less bcos i m already used to and i had great time already drinking and the banquet lunch was pretty good imo. In a whole, if u r thinking private-get-away- vacation, this is your choice. With such bad ass economy, judging the attendance of this joint, it will probably take a decade to recover cost, so well before it shuts down, at least take a tour.

Front entrance hall, botanic decos all over the place, this picture only shows half of it; live jazz band almost throughout the day, attendance is zero though, what tragedy

church area directly extended from front hall, normally used as show room

boy i yayed christie dont cry almost 3 times that day, love is all around lol

believe it or not, this garden area connects to each individual rooms, u open your bay window, et voila...

this is what you see from the room during the day, u can see cafes, disney-like village and a colossium afar; in night time, light is shining every where its even more beautiful than it is now, o and boat trips around the lake too- day time v night time attendance10:1

  • First time hosting at my new place

Yesterday, i hosted a little feast gathering at my new place, just a few close friends who i got to know many years ago, so not quite a house warming party in my opinion. I guess it turned out not so bad, i managed to keep them and myself happy, until a couple of them just ruined it for me. I do not wish to expand on how and why. I just want to write about how i am as a person, when it comes to friendship. People often think of me as a man who is loyal to his friends. I guess they are right, however by being so, i do expect them to respect me in return.

May be this is too much to ask for. At least it seems so to me.

My disappointment is too much to bear, woke up at six, eyes wide opened, may be its the wine, but mainly, a little heart broken. Sorry for bringing this up. I guess i m not forgiving enough, this is something i find increasingly difficult, towards my closest friends, even my family at times. But dont worry folks, i have learnt to adjust my tolerance from bitterness to positive thinking. I will find something to do today, that will make myself happy and i ll be back on my feet in no time; how about that? Time to readjust my pitiful self esteem^^

Writer: Stanley Weiser Director: Oliver Stone Cast: Josh Brolin as W. Bush, Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush, James Cromwell as H. W. Bush, Richard Dreyfuss as Cheney, Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, Scott Glenn as Donald Rumsfeld, Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair

Some interesting facts of the movie (from wikipedia):

Christian Bale was originally cast by Stone and spent months researching the role, but he dropped out after he was not satisfied with the prosthetic makeup tests. Stone remarked, "Christian’s a very methodical actor and he has to have the makeup thing work for him." With Brolin's casting at the "last minute", he spent months working on Bush's distinctive vocal style, calling hotels in Texas and talking to the people at the front desk, listening to their accents.

Banks said she would not do an impression of the First Lady. "I just want to honor her voice, her stillness, and her hairstyle."

Stone was interested in Robert Duvall as Cheney, but he turned down the role.

    W. is being financed independently, with Hong Kong, German, and Australian funds.

Though Stone has criticized Bush for his administration's 2003 invasion of Iraq, the director said that he was not looking to make an "anti-Bush polemic. Stone compared his goal of the film to that of The Queen (2006), wanting to trace "seminal events in Bush's life".

The film, originally titled Bush, was re-titled W. Filming began on May 12, 2008 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and completed filming on July 11, 2008. The film was released on October 17, 2008, before the presidential election.

Comment: As my interests in world politics grew, this movie became one of those i do not want to miss. I do not write about politics on this blog however, as i have explained before, i would prefer to write about my likes and dislikes here only. Having spent 129 minutes watching this movie, i must say it is an intriging account, and a carefully thought out chronicle of the former U.S. presidency. The actors have put greats efforts in their impersonation, namely Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Richard Dreyfuss, and a couple positive surprises such as Jeffrey Wright and Thandie Newton (she is an actress i dislike mostly, but not in this occasion). Please understand they were not doing a spitting image, but as an embodiment of real life personality, where the general public is very much aware of. This aside, i wish the movie did not use the flash back method that often, it is only interrupting most of the time, in fact, this applies to many movies these days. To close this one up, i was never a great fan of president W, but then again, this story got me to think, that if anyone can grow up as a youth, already being so certain and devoted to be the president of a country, must be EXTRAORDINARY. I have met the rich and the poor, the powerful and underpriviledged, who grew up to be bankers, lawyers, doctors and even politicians, yet i have not met such a personailty my whole life, have you?

This is an ideal that dont happen over night; so god bless the souls who decided to become one of them.

Hey guys, it baffles me that why there isnt any comments coming in for this one, so i suppose i should throw this clip in just to lighten things up a bit. Enjoy! I did!

  • Ponyo on the cliff... or Bolt?
     |  )

    Saturday, Feb 14, 2009 10:29PM / Standard Entry

Writer/ Director: Hayao Miyazaki Cast: Yuria Nara (Ponyo), Hiroki Doi (Sosuke) , Tomoko Yamaquchi (Sosuke's mother) Music: Joe Hisaishi

Writer: Chris Sanders Director: Chris Williams, Byron Howard Cast: John Travolta (Bolt), Miley Cyrus (Penny), Susie Essman (Mittens), Mark Walton (Rhino), Greg Germann (Agent) Music: John Powell

The reason i compare these two animated movies is because both of them are released in hong kong about the same time, and they are intended for children. Just by looking at the posters, i would think Miyazaki is yet going for a pleasant surprising plot again, bolt however is just another predictable disney 3D action movie for weekend family movie goers. Turns out i was wrong for both cases, lets start with ponyo.

I guess Miyazaki this time is trying to lighten up on his environmental issues, even though there are still moments of polluted coastal sea beds and over populated water traffic. The beginning is as dreamy and beautiful as all other Miyazaki's movie, it revolves around a little gold fish, who escapes from the deep blue sea and ends up stranded on the shore. There she is rescued by a five year old boy, who she eventually falls in love with. Despite ponyo's father's (a powerful wizard apparently) intervention and the boy's mother went missing, the two children found love and peace at the end. Sounds like a simple plot, may be too simple this time, after a pretty gripping start, unnecessary details like 'how to start an electric motor' or 'how to start a steam boat', killed the pace only half way the movie. Why did ponyo decide to leave the sea was never explained. The scene when the boy's mother called her husband 'baka' using light house signal, and the minor characters' dialog suggest this movie is intended not only for children. However the plot never brought forward this point. I guess the worst part is when ponyo's mother appeared towards the end, her appearance is too gaia/ mother of earth in other words too old fashioned/ cliche, her purpose was also never explained. I was so lost in direction. All in all, what is the movie trying to say? A gold fish's dream come true? I have not a clue. (3.5/5)

My first impression of bolt: a 3D sci-fi super dog boy's flick intended for multi game stations adaptation, period. Yet what turns out is not only special effects, but a dog's feelings to his special 'person' (actress penny). Forever fast paced, this is yet another solid piece of entertainment that disney animation has to provide. The plot has a twist at the beginning, giving away bolt's identity not as a super dog (who uses its super powers to protect  little girl penny from the evil clutches of dr. calico), but an actor dog who only came to realise until much later. It then becomes even more entertaining when mittens the cat and rhino the hamster came in and totally steal the show. After a series of laughing out loud pet adventures, the end is of course filled with love and hugs, disney style. Overall, the story has made a successful attempt to over turn the presumed super hero genre, it is touching at times, provided that the casts, dialog, and setting are nicely fused together.  (4.5/5)

I arrived home few days ago, however i m still reluctant to rearrange my bookshelf belongings. In my first attempt, i recovered an interesting item: a long forgotten laptop.

    Here is its statistics:

Microsoft windows 98   (since 4.10.1998, any idea what u were doing back then)

Pentium II processor Intel MMX tech   (sorta suck even then)

96 MB ram, 2G HD   (laughable)

support CD rom, floppy, PCMCIA socket    (indispensible 10 years ago)

What a piece of work... brings back memories from my college days. What did i use it for? assignments, interphone and vcd most of the time i guess. How much was it? probably some where over 12k hk dollars. Is it a keeper? no way jose, i have given it to my maid for solitaire from now on.

Anyways, i m mighty happy with my wall tile, thank you for participating the vote guys!
