  • Well 'ard Tour

    Tuesday, Aug 2, 2011 1:44PM / Standard Entry

It's been a long hot summer and the members of Uranus have been on an extended work break, helping save lives in our full time super hero jobs and righting the wrongs of the universe. However, demand for our musical services has forced us back to the rehearsal studio (ok, we got a phone call from a desperate promoter who promised us beer). The Well 'ard Tour is the culmination of a long, hot, sweaty Tuesday night (for an hour at least!) writing new originals and visiting a few takes on some prominent current hits. We plan to tackle the Kings Of Leon's Your Sex Is On Fire and we are adding a new original called "The Chosen One." The new original came from what was basically our first warm up jam after two months apart. Ed "Keef is a pussie" Bean jammed on our favourite three chord progression (D, A, G) and our Rock God singer, Big Willie, added vocals from a previous song he had been working on because he was too lazy to think up new ones. Jasper and Dom worked out percussion between them and Craig stuck in some fiddly guitar bits which he's since forgotten. Lo-and-behold, a new hit. So, come and support us. If you don't catch us Thursday, we'll be following up the tour with a gig for the Underground's XPERIENCE LIVE show on
Saturday, 3rd September 2011 at Xperience, G/F, 33 Lockhart Rd, Wanchai. You'll recognise us by our Bedford van. If it's broken down, we'll give you a ticket for a push. Whatever you do, buy us beer on the night!

  • Wheel2Wheel charity gig

    Tuesday, Feb 22, 2011 11:53AM / Standard Entry

It's been a long time since Uranus was seen onstage. Too long, we think. So, we iz rockin' out for charity this Friday at Grappas for the Wheel2Wheel concert.

Check out the deets on the flyer below.

Uranus will have two new originals to play. We've only rehearsed them once together, but we feel there's nothing like seeing Uranus raw. So, we plan to throw them in the mix of our semi-new originals and a couple of Aussie covers to keep the theme of the evening on track.

So, get Uranus down to Grappas and rock out. You'll know who we are. We'll be the band arriving in the 1967 Bedford Van, carrying our own equipment through the back door.

    Rock on!

  • Pawn To Rock

    Monday, Aug 30, 2010 5:20PM / Standard Entry

    Hello gang,

It's been light years since we last posted a blog for our super nova fans so here's an update on the Island (North) tour:

We've been hitting the road fairly heavily in the past three months on the Hong Kong Island tour. The Bedford van has covered some mileage and could honestly do with a tune up, a good lube and a new paint job.

We played our first ever acoustic gig and our first ever live radio gig at RTHK last month. It went pretty well although it was hard fitting all five members of Uranus into the small studio but we got there in the end. We played our two current releases, "Alive Again" and "Leave Me Where You Found Me".

It was then back into the Bedford and back on tour. Next gig was the Lan Kwai Fong Beer Festival. If ever a festival was made for us, it was this one. Even the rain couldn't stop us. Risking full electric shock, we hoisted our wet kit into California Bar and onto the stage and started cranking out angry tunes to a full house. We apologised to the table of 60 year olds eating tacos in front of the stage for the noisy interruption. One poor dear had her fingers in her ears. The teenagers at the back of the room playing ping pong beer games didn't seem to mind at all however and were soon rockin' out to Uranus tunes.

The Island Tour (North) then continued with a gig the following night at the Fringe Club. The photo above tells only part of the story. The good news is that this time no one was arrested.

And now to our next gig. We are headlining for a new rock night at the Pawn in Wanchai. "Where CEOs become Rock Gods". That's us right there. In fact, Uranus was the first of the Greek Gods, so we feel pretty comfortable wearing the tag. Here is the flyer for the gig:

If you can thump a bass like a maniac, you love rock n roll more than yo mumma, and you think bass guitar is the ONLY guitar, then we'd like to hear from you. Please email us at [email protected] There's nothing quite like being in Uranus! Guaranteed!

See you on the light side of the moon.

    Uranus.

  • The Triple Penetration Tour

    Friday, Apr 16, 2010 4:08PM / Standard Entry

The nationwide (island north) HK Triple Penetration tour goes on!

Uranus have been in the tour Bedford all week getting all the way from Wyndham St to Lan Kwai Fong (some amazing tour stories that should never be shared).

Tomorrow night’s show is at the Cavern where we are the first band on (first is best right?) at 8.15pm and only playing a 20 minute set to help Chrissie launch the excellent new Underground CD so if you’re coming please don’t be late. There are some excellent bands on after us.

After that it’s back in the bus for more debauchery. Next stop Rockschool on April 24th and then rumours about Glastonbury have to be quashed as Dom’s mum won’t let him out to play.

    See you tomorrow.

  • Underground CD recording

    Thursday, Mar 18, 2010 2:27PM / Standard Entry

The band reformed after a long work break over Christmas and New Years to record two original songs for the Underground label's CD3.

Given that we had not played together in 3 months, there were understandable nerves about how good we could get our sound in the five hours we had to record both tracks.

Guitars, not having been played for an embarrassingly long time, required re-stringing.

Unlike our last studio recording, we recorded our songs "live" together, putting mics on all the amps and drum kit and relying on everyone to get it right at the same time. It's a pretty big ask when you haven't played together for such a long time.

The late night session was more relaxing than expected, with a few beers and lots of laughs keeping the tension low.

Everyone was tired, but the vibe was good and the experience enjoyable.

Vocals were put down last and then the best version of the songs chosen from which to begin each mix.

Autumn demonstrating her specialist skills during a break in recording.

Which take is best? Consensus in Uranus is usually easily reached.

Master producer, Koya, deals with unruly band members by threatening to stick another microphone in Uranus.

    Job done.

The Underground CD will be released at two big parties on April 17, at the Cavern, and April 24, at Rockschool.

Uranus will play live at the April 17 release. Please come and support us.

We look forward to seeing you there,

    Signed,

All the band members in Uranus.
