  • The Historic Cross-Straits Flights

    Saturday, Jul 5, 2008 10:06PM / Members only

Yesterday, toursits from the mainland China finally arrived at Taiwan. The media kept talking about this and everyone were delighted. I also want to travel there, esp. visiting the Imperial Palace Museum and trying the snacks there...just waiting for the price to go down...

What I know about Taiwan is very limited. All the information I get is from phoenix channel, some newspaper and my primary school textbooks. However, I did watch quite a lot of TV programmes made by Taiwanese. Some of them are good while most of them are terrible. Actually, they are quite fun but I'm no longer a teenager so they make me sick. HK also has some programmes like this but they always convery some sparkle ideas.

However, some phoenix programmes made by Taiwanese always surprised me! They are much more traditional than we are. I love the lectures talking about the Analects and other cultrual stuff. Those Taiwanese usually make good comments on current issues, from which I've learned a lot! The mainland lost ten years in the cultural revolution. That's why in some degree, Taiwan keeps more.

  • Some interesting Chinese people

    Thursday, Jul 3, 2008 10:19AM / Members only

Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou are three metropolis in China.(Guangzhou is much smaller than the other two but still a famous city.) How these people think others from other provinces in China?

Beijing---They are only common people even if the governors in other provinces.( background: Beijing people divide Chinese people into two groups, government officials and common people. Only the government officials in Beijing are so-called government officials.)

Shanghai--- They are country bumpkins. (background: In their mind, only Shanghainese are citizens. They divide Chinese people into two groups, citizens and country bumpkins)

Guangzhou--- Everyone from the provinces that geographically above Guangdong is northern people. (background: In fact, the dividing line of north and south is the Yangtze River. e.g.Shanghai, considered to be a northern city according to Cantonese, is actually a city in the southern China.)

Question: We have a clear understanding on the cultrual gap between Chinese and foreigners. How about the gap among Chinese people?

Yes life would be more interesting if we didn't have the pressure to find jobs and work.
