  • Where did the torch go??!!

    Saturday, May 3, 2008 5:58PM / Standard Entry / Thomas' thoughts

    This says something about Macau.

The torch routes were printed on leaflets and given out at the tourist information centre (and elsewhere too I'm sure). Samsung, Giordano etc all had banners waving, the police were in, as were some Olympic organization and most of all, millions of patriotic onlookers, many with China flags painted on their faces, waving flags of all sizes and other little Olympic signs, waiting for hours except... the torch never came!!!

It's hilarious! Everyone thought the Olympic torch was coming this way (past the busy street below my balcony) and so many people were on hand to witness it and all of a sudden, the crowds just started to go away as they began to realise the torch was not coming this way after all! Crazy!

This is probably where Macau is most similar to mainland China - the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, and is not interested to ask.

I will be playing the role of the Lion and there will be an orchestra conducted by Mr. Henry Shek I was in fact shortlisted to play the Scarecrow for several weeks, until the recent Singing audition when apparently, no other male audtionee could do the Lion's Solo number well enough! Show's on 16-24 August.

  • Olympic torch AGAIN!

    Friday, May 2, 2008 6:51PM / Standard Entry

Back in 2004, the Olympic torch ran past my living room when I first moved to Beijing. I was on the 17th floor back then. Beijing was it's last stop before Athens.

Tomorrow (3 May), I have another date with history as the torch will be running past my living room again! This time it will be Macao. And I will only be 3 floors up waiting at my wonderful wonderful balcony!

    More soon...

  • Macau and The Landlord

    Monday, Apr 21, 2008 2:38AM / Standard Entry / Thomas' thoughts

It's been ages since I wrote. Sorry about that. I've for some reason froze my own blogs, including my own blogspot blog website as... erm... perhaps I wanted to not narrate a mess of papers before I have them sorted.

So, anyway, the last I checked, I was talking about pulling out a Ko Hung play. Good news is we're talking about the play again. Theatre Space from HK is now planning to stage it in HK next year. So, I'll talk more about that later.

So I was home in Singapore for CNY and had since returned to Macau to set up the cake shop that I once talked about. It's moving on slowly as Macanese people are famous for being slow. And the process of applying for my work visa here in Macau has made me an unhappy man for a couple of months, simply because I hated paperwork and there were piles of them for me to deal with everyday to get that damn visa. Like China, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing here in Macau. Well, but at least the hearts of Macanese people are genuine and they make the best friends in the world. Not sure about professionalism in the work here though. I suspect working with them will make me like Macau a little less. We'll see.

I also had since rented a new shop space that is renovating now and a wonderful wonderful new apartment with a fantastic fantastic balcony. The balcony overlooks the busiest shopping street at downtown Macau! In fact, I'm at the balcony all day and night. I eat and drink here, meet friends and professional contacts here (saves me a fortune from not going to Starbucks to meet people anymore), do computer stuffs here and yes, I am writing this blog at the balcony too! Here's what it's all about - the view from the balcony.

Then, I also named my cake shop Hoshizora Cake Shop (星空饼屋) and here's some pics of the cakes that my chef prepared a while ago.

Now, though we're all drooling, I will have to be a spoilsport here and save telling you the address of the shop till next time, simply because I don't know how it's written yet as I just rented the place a few days ago and it's still renovating. So I might as well reveal everything when it's ready.

Happy to be back blogging. I miss the blogging-me.

  • Cake-ing in on Macau

    Wednesday, Dec 5, 2007 3:11AM / Standard Entry / Thomas' thoughts

I know this is a little random folks, but I thought I'll just share this piece of information that I'm planning on starting a Japanese pastry shop in Macau! I'll head on there soon to do some research and talk to a few potential partners and hopefully the bakery will be up and running sometime next year. Here are some pics from my baker's past works of cookies and cakes. Yummy yummy!!!
