A new project by Island Man Pictures:
A 3 short film production titled ‘PIECES OF NIGHT AND LIGHT’
After a couple of long, hard months in preparations, the ‘Roulette City’ team is coming together again to shoot a new film titled ‘Pieces of Night and Light’. This new project consists of 3-interlinked short films that will see collaboration with artists from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The first of these short films is titled ‘Blue Card’, and it will be filmed in Macau on 25th September 2009. This film will star Singapore pop singer Faith Yang in the lead role together with Macau actor Jacky Li. Toze Soares will be the film’s DOP, which will be directed by Thomas Lim, who also wrote the script. Island Man Pictures and Rebirth are co-producing this short film, and Thomas and Faith are the producers of this project, which is completely self funded.
BLUE CARD:
Like most of us would know, the sudden boom of the casino industry in Macau propelled its economy to an all time high not too long ago. But more recently, the sudden fall of the world’s economy saw Macau sending many foreigners packing for home in short notice when their ‘Blue Cards’ (work permits) expired. Based on a true story, ‘Blue Card’ is about a Singapore girl who works as an writer/editor for her self-funded magazines, aiming to promote Macau to the region as a city that offers more than just gambling pleasures. But she was (obviously) unable to stay on longer because of her visa problems. Forced to leave Macau in a short one week’s notice, her world in casino city fell apart quickly. However, beneath the frustrations that were building inside her, she discovered the warmth that was surrounding her throughout her days in Macau, which she had overlooked for so long.
PIECES OF NIGHT AND LIGHT:
A 3-short film project initiated by Thomas Lim, ‘Pieces of Night and Light’ will kick off with shooting the first short film ‘Blue Card’ in September 2009. These short films tell 3 stories of incidents seldom discussed by Macau locals and the project takes on the unique angle of focusing on the problems that are encountered by foreigners and new immigrants in Macau.
After ‘Blue Card’, Thomas Lim will continue to develop at least 2 more short films planned for November 2009. Sam Voutas, the DOP of ‘Roulette City’ will return to Macau to film these shorts with majority of the original crew from ‘Roulette City’.
FAITH YANG:
One half of the successful girl group ‘2 Gals’, Singapore-born singer Faith Yang has since gone solo and will be in Macau to promote her first solo album ‘Simple Living’ on 22 September. Her former group ‘2 Gals’ was signed to EMI Taiwan and their album songs became top hits on ‘MTV’ and ‘Channel V’ in the late 90s and early 2000s.
