So something came up recently, I stumbled upon something that just reopened old wounds.
You see, there are old relationships that just turns out sour and then for the rest of your life you'll know where you stand. I don't have a problem with those. If everything turned to shit or just didn't work out, I'll recover eventually.
I even got told by someone that she didn't want to hear from me ever again, I thought her reaction was quite over the top, but I obliged and to this day have never tried to say 'hi'. That was seven years ago and I'm sticking to her demand without batting an eyelid.
I'm just the kind of guy who moves forward, not always easily, but still.
But then there are the 'missing in action' ones. Those with whom I had a wonderful time, and then they vanished into thin air. Simple as that. Within a few days of our last encounter, no news whatsoever. No emails, no calls, and no replies to mine. With time I'll see one of them on Facebook or something, and curiosity will get me to send a 'hiya there'.
I'm not asking for anything, it's just that since we shared something together, it just makes sense I'm interested in knowing what's up with them these days. It's not like we had a fight or anything. They just disappeared. And I never had an answer to that, and in a way, I'm not asking for one, but I do want to know how they are now and hopefully, I'll see they're happy. I'm pretty sure I got blocked at that point, too. Smoke screen: on. That hurts. It's a closure thing I guess, apparently they had theirs without me knowing.
The usual theory is that I was most likely a second fiddle. That would explain a lot of things. But I'd rather be given a 'sorry, my guy was abroad and I was lonely' speech than the silent treatment.
It's funny how in this era of google and social networking sites, it's only a matter of time before you bump into them again eventually, and they won't know unless you tell them.
And so I was there reading and laughing at her delightful prose, and for sure I knew exactly why I fell for her in the first place.
But seriously, I'm already going through a breakup at the moment, I really didn't need this.

Color correction is usually fun, sometimes frustrating. At least with my regular job because there's got to be some continuity. Although it's not exactly my job do to it, there's other guys in charge of that but from time to time I do have to create most of the look.
Except when I'm doing photography, then it's pretty much up to me, it's not like I have clients or supervisors to please. Ironically, it's also where I like to keep things as simple as possible. There's one thing I learned a while ago regarding over-editing, that it's going to be pretty easy to pinpoint when you did the work, considering most of what was coming out at the time looked the same way.
I always felt that simple 'designs' may not draw that much attention at first but in the long run, it will stand the test of time. Why do you think black and white photography is still so important today? I'm all for innovations but you can't deny the appeal of the 'basics'.
Anyway, I didn't want to start a debate with this entry, all I wanted was to show you this...
Clockwise... original; sort of natural color correction; really freakin' bright and minimalist; bleak blueish one.

So I've been playing with colors with some of my pics lately. Actually there's not that much work involved, but still the looks are way different from each other. I did the really bright one kinda by accident, just playing with levels while talking to my friend on the phone, not expecting much, and in the end it's my favorite of the lot. The model liked the other two.

I got an email earlier this week asking if I'd be willing to be featured in this month's newsletter for UtopiaPeople, a production/postproduction talent agency to which I belong. 'Sure, I said, but there's plenty of more glamorous vfx guys in your pool as far as I know' but seems they were fine with me.
Since I'm not really busy at the moment, I had all the time in the world to answer their email questions and add some pictures and stories. It's one rare occasion where I sound very 'corporate' doing the interview, but since they didn't edit out any of the sillier things I said, I don't sound too much like a corporate-whore although it does come out a bit douchebaggy at times. Hey, what can I do, clients read this thing too, I don't want to sound like a crybaby blaming limited budget and my usual 'told you so' routine... Those are private, man.
So
here it is...And lucky for you guys, the technical slang is almost absent and the story's more about experience and work philosophy.

Apparently, holding your hands behind your back is a must this summer...

I for one am very happy to learn chicks will do this thing naked. Whoever thought of that deserves a medal.
Met someone who's a likely collaborator for photo projects. I was flattered to know she looked for me a while after seeing some of the few portraits I shot long ago, girls willing to model don't seem to like my stuff much, because they won't look like a magazine cover. Anyway, let's see how that'll go.
A final note... kids these days I tellz ya! What's with throwing away a movie featuring eye gouging and a three-boobed Martian hooker? Unless they bought the Blu-Ray special edition, there's just no excuse for such blasphemy.

Just got back from a weekend of fishing... No electricity, mobile coverage, just six dudes with a twisted sense of humor and a weakness for booze and nature and trout. Yeah!
How's your HK skyline now, bitch?

Part of a complete breakfast. Period.

And a classy souvenir group picture.

Such a random post...
