I would like to
present you origami technologies. Many of you may think that it is a very
ridiculous idea, but I’ll try to show you that is a new way to solve technical
problems.
Origami is the
traditional Japanese art of paper folding, but probably it comes from China. However it is
said that’s from Japan, because the
Japanese developed origami to a very high art form.
OK, but you can
ask what origami has in common with maths? Optimization is a part of applied
mathematics. The main point of this subject is finding the best solutions for
physical and economic problems. It can seem impossible to use paper toys in a
practical way. But origami is not a senseless folding piece of paper, it is a
process full of reasoned steps based on geometry and physical law. Origami is more than an ancient art form. It is a deceptively simple technique of
paper folding, precise weight and perfect angles that make the humble paper
crane a bridge between the worlds of art and science. Engineers and scientists
are adopting some of the technology of origami to build strong but elaborate
equipment that can literally fold into a smaller, safer and more compact size.
Everyone remembers
from childhood airplanes or boats made of paper. Even if origami looks simple, it is also precise and scientifically based. It
shares these features with mathematics. Math questions about what is possible
physically can be manifested and then tested by using the angles and geometry
of origami technology. With origami and math, art, design and science converge
almost seamlessly.
The crossing
diagonals method is based on binary divisions. It lets you make a construction
for an arbitrary fraction. This method uses two creases: one of them is the
diagonal of the square; the other is a crease that connects two points on
opposite sides.
I'd like to
present a few examples of industrial origami. The simple folds and bases that
are the building blocks of Japanese origami are what engineers and physicists use
to solve problems related to space, weight and materials. Solar panels and
telescopes that fold into small, light units during transport and then unfold
are just a few of the applications of origami technology that have appeared
since the 1990s. A very interesting example is the print-and-fold technique which allows you to
create the shape you want, but with the weight taken out. This technique might
be used to make, for example, lighter titanium reinforcing struts for rocket
wings. That manufacturing technique could reduce the weight of these particular
parts from about 1.5 pounds to a quarter
pound. Instead of making a solid titanium cube, researchers could build a
hollow one with much less material. The folded metal and ceramic structures
should also be able to withstand extreme temperatures and heavy loads, which is
important for aerospace and industrial applications.
Origami Technology allows thinner sheet material
to be folded into complex, innovative structures with simple, low cost
fixtures. Another benefit is that no specialized equipment is used with
industrial origami. It is implemented using existing CAD (computer aided
design) software. It also has the environmental benefits. Industrial origami is
already used in industrial design, telecommunications and consumer electronics.
It is a new way to optimize solutions by maths and origami art.
But yesterday was rain... so my way was all like this... I hope I won't have to walk back the same trail...
Can you see a duck?
...wonderful sight... I don't know why it reminds me some of a fabulous scene...
oh! cute caterpillar :)
gosh... this trail seems to have no end... I'm tired... I'm going back... ...the same way I came here -.-
Every adventure must have something thrilling... I know you were waiting for this :P So...when I was coming back I met 2 hunting dogs... without an owner... They started barking and growling at me...
What are you looking at, dog? :P I'm not your snack! I stopped and waited until they'll be bored me. One of them sniffed my flower and after this they went away.
I hope you like my story ;) Who wants to go with me next time? ^^
How is it that some songs can remind such a wonderful feelings??
I haven't been on alivenotdead for a long time and today, when I've been listening to this song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzEcFtDurf ...I've decided it can't be that!
alivenotdead is the only place where I still feel magic of Asia. Nowadays Twitter, Facebook, Weibo or MySpace are very popular. But I realized that I love alivenotdead the most! And people I've met here are amazing!
谢谢你们!
My Chinese is still very bad, but I'm working on it for you, my Chinese Friends :)
Today is 808th day since I'm the member of alivenotdead and I hope I'll be the member forever!
How many butterflies can you count on flowers in your garden?
How many small insects can you notice in 5 minutes?
How many species of them can you name?
How many times have you seen them?
"Gdybym poprosiła, żebyś uniósł głowę
i popatrzył w niebo,
powiedziałbyś, że masz ważniejsze sprawy.
Gdybym poprosiła, żebyś się zatrzymał
i spojrzał na mrówkę,
powiedziałbyś, że się spieszysz.
Gdybym poprosiła, żebyś się schylił
i przyjrzał się pająkowi,
powiedziałbyś, że się boisz.
Gdybym poprosiła, żebyś uklęknął
i dotknął trawy,
powiedziałbyś, że się pobrudzisz.
Gdybym zapytała, czy odwiedzisz mnie,
odpowiedziałbyś, że tak,
ale nie dzisiaj…
Gdybym zapytała, czy porozmawiasz ze mną,
odpowiedziałbyś, że tak,
ale nie dzisiaj…
Gdybym zapytała, czy znajdziesz trochę czasu,
odpowiedziałbyś, że tak,
ale nie dzisiaj…
Gdybym zapytała, czy…
Gdybym zapytała o cokolwiek innego,
twoja odpowiedź zawsze brzmiałaby tak samo.
Jeżeli nie dzisiaj, to kiedy?
Jeżeli nie masz czasu, by spojrzeć w niebo,
po którym suną białe obłoki…
Jeżeli nie masz czasu, by spojrzeć na mrówkę,
która wytrwale dąży do celu…
to chcesz mieć czas dla mnie?
Dla człowieka, który potrzebuje więcej uwagi
niż mrówka czy chmura?
Dla człowieka, którego myśli i słowa
mogą cię bardziej przerazić niż malutki pająk?
Dla człowieka, który swoimi czynami
może bardziej zatruć serce twoje?
Jeżeli nie potrafisz dostrzec tego, co najmniejsze,
najmniej istotne i niepozorne…
mnie też nie dostrzeżesz…
Nie zobaczysz tego, co ważne,
co napawa mnie radością i smutkiem.
Nic nie zobaczysz…"
If you can't see all these creatures, if you don't have time to stop and look at them for the moment, how can you have time for people around you who need more attention than these small beings?
Nie mogę uwierzyć ile czasu kiedyś tu spędzałyśmy, a teraz taka cisza ;( Co 2 miesiące obiecuję sobie że odświeżę AnD, zacznę częściej wchodzić... :/ Za dużo fajnych znajomości mi uciekło :(
Hi sorry for the late reply. This week has been busy b/c of all the grading I have to do! But I think I told you that I went to see Jolin in Beijing right? Great concert! She is the best! I am thinking I want to go see her again in HK too! haha
I always love winters. Nice and cold...I can at least make use of my big jackets..ha. I will be in HK in summer so its not any cooler there and here in China. I guess the best thing about summer is I can lose the extra body fat from the heat...haha
oh nice. I have not been to Poland yet but we had a teacher here a few years ago who was from Poland. how is the weather in Poland in summer? it gets hot as hell here in summer.
excellent. I also have the 3 day holiday for Easter. 3 days isnt a lot since I am not even close to Beijing or Shanghai. thinking whether i want to fly as always or take the train to save some cash. I am back in Zhengzhou China. Where are you now? Also in China?
clear, salty,
fits in one eye and weighs a ton
It has the taste of sea
may be mild.
Tenant of pain,
home favorite.
In the dead she comes,
hostage's revenge
sister of despair,
rival of hope.
It can be caused by worms and mundane
or by the thorn of the flower,
cruel you love.
Fond of drama,
come to my bed
intentionally, without asking me made me suffer.
And I think myself strong,
and I felt that,
I will be weak when other of them come.
If cheap is crazy and the process is slow,
at the moment
let me walk against the wind.
What will it be tough and I heart being vulnerable?
The wind did not, he is mild, but cold and ruthless.
(And Hot) inked a letter of the sad poet.
(Only) She ran in the brown face of the prophet.
Worm out of line,
tears of a man will fall,
This is your B.O. for eternity.
He says that men do not cry,
okay, spoke
or go to the sister group there,
Jesus wept ...
