I didn't realize until today how long it has been since I have written a blog on AnD. So many things have happened in the last few months and I have been very focused on some work behind-the-scenes at AnD and also my own artist work. I haven't felt very expressive lately, but will try to be more active with my blog in the coming weeks.
For the last 6 weeks or so, I have been rehearsing for a play. Some of you may have seen the events listing for it. The play is called The Golden Cangue, adapted by Wang An Yi from the Eileen Chang novel. Ann Hui is the director and Perry Chiu plays the character Chi-Qiao, arguably one of Eileen Chang's most memorable characters.
The rehearsal process is very intense. We rehearse 6 days a week, 4-5 hours a day. It was very challenging for me at first, since this is my first time working on a full-scale play production. Acting on stage can be very different from working on film, so it took some time for me to get used to moving on the stage, being more expressive with my body language, etc. Once I was able to get used to the differences, I started having lots of fun working with the director and the other actors. It has been a great experience working with Ann, Perry, and the entire cast and crew because everyone is passionate and we are all working together to create the best play we can.
We had our Opening Night last night and things went very well! It was special to see how all the work we all had put into this play comes together when we finally perform to an audience. We have 13 more shows to do in the next 2 weeks, so this is just the beginning. I know I am really going to enjoy the remaining shows and will continue to focus and work hard!
That's it for now!

She tries to act out the words. With every movement, every word, we follow the movement of the woman. The guests guessing her intentions. She frustrates at the slow understanding. He looks on and see all sides, the sides she is yearning to show. He is the only one that see her intentions. He responds with a smirk, a sly hint of the smile that could set her free. She coyly rescinds from her thrown to lower ground where the fight can take place level. Silence and the wind intertwine as he and she survey the grounds before battle. Lingering walks, slow moving gestures mixed with deep emotions flow across the wind and silence intensively creeping within the veins of he and she like a shot of pheromones injected in the aortal vein. They move without direction, with each move a move closer to the eventually shake that will break the walls they each face. Every step is a step closer to freedom, to be free when nothing seems to set you free. He touches she, and the walls, brittle and trembling, surge unto a chain reaction where the joints and knuckles quiver into the inevitable. She succumbs like a demolished building, unable to resist the rush, the tide, the flow that is building in her womb waiting for the tickle that will trigger the release of the springs from her boiling earth. When they reach the shore, they pant and wonder whether they were still here. The night and the shimmering sights reminds of all they have left and all they have founded. A moment's solace from the wounds and scars attained, a moment where hope can exist again, where everything has not been tainted by all we have consumed.

I meant to write about this much sooner, but as usual, the whirlwind that is my schedule has caused me to write this post so late. I was invited by the Hong Kong Berkeley Club to be the MC for this year's Berkeley Alumni Charity Ball. Believe it or not, there are many Berkeley alumni living and working in Hong Kong. This is the 1st year I have been involved with the HK Berkeley Club and it's really good to know that there are so many Bears out here in H.K.
It was an honor and a pleasure to be the MC for this year's Charity Ball. They were also able to invite Jun Kung, Eugene Pao, Pete Moore and the band to be the music entertainment for the evening. Needless to say, they ROCKED!
Also had the pleasure to meet and hang out with the California Golden Overtones! They are a prestigious campus female singing group, and the Alumni Association flew them down to HK just for the Ball! For many of the ladies, it was their first time in H.K. I hope they had a good time!
Here are some photos from the Ball! Thanks Clara for sharing!

HK Berkeley Club Chair David Wong, his son, and me!

Having a drink with in between my MC duties!

The Golden Overtones in full effect! They ROCK!!!!!

Steve, Bob, and Me!
Patrick, Stephen, Shan, Raffi, and many of our friends also showed up at the Ball. Many of us at alivenotdead went to Cal, so it was a special night for us!

I was invited to City U to take part in a discussion forum regarding privacy rights and media last Friday. The discussion went pretty well and we even did a role-playing exercise where the students formed groups and acted out situations where media invades the privacy of public figures. That was pretty interesting . . . !!!
Many topics were raised and the point of these discussions is not to tell or dictate to students what they should believe, but to stimulate them to think about the issues for themselves. This was the intent of the privacy discussions I helped organized with the HKPAG earlier this year. I am happy that Dr. Lin invited me again to speak to students in her department. I hope the students at City U enjoyed the discussion!
At the end of the discussion forum, one of the students, Koey, invited me to her birthday party with a very cute McDonald's invitation. It was an invitation I could not turn down, so I went to the birthday party, which was held at a McDonald's. Don't remember the last time I was at McDonald's for a birthday party, but I was probably very short and stubby back then, and liked to play in the dirt!
Here are some photos from the birthday party that Koey sent me. Happy Birthday! And thanks for inviting me to your party!
