  • A LO by a dear friend

    Friday, May 22, 2009 1:30PM / Members only

I've just finished my second assignment and was thinking what to do before taking shower and leave to submit the report, then I remembered that it has been quite a while before I updated my blog!

It has been a depressive 2 weeks for me... stress at work as well as the need to rush for the assignment has brought many negative thoughts to my mind.

Having to face death and physical suffering of my patients almost daily in an oncology setting set me thinking... As a nurse what can I do for them? Many has told me... at times there is really nothing we can do... and being there is all they need of us. However what about a nurse's need? The need to do something? I'm not sure if other nurses feels the same like me.... but at time when I know there is nothing I can do but to hold their hands... really breaks my heart!

I was on a night shift when this old uncle told me he felt cold and has general discomfort over his chest and abdomen region... but refused any pain medication as it makes him feel worst. His blood suger level was normal... parameters normal too... but still he is in great discomfort.

I got both the HO and MO-on-call to see review this old uncle... ECG normal... Domperidol, Losec, MMT... all that the doctors can think of was given.

Turning done.... hot drink offered... and finally I was left will this uncle looking at me in misery... "So how? What to do next?" I was lost too... and thank God that it was a peaceful night where I can afford to sit next to him to hold his hand. How I wish I can do more! But what? nothing comes to mind and I didn't know what to say too... Doesn't a nurse has the "need" to do something??? Felt so bottled up... like ready to burst anytime.

I met my ex-ward Sister on Msn one night as I was doing my assignment... She asked me how I was doing... and the next thing I know... I started pouring out everything to her... such a sweet lady she is... and her words does make me feel much better after the conversation... haha... must have scared her :p.

Well... guess life is not really that sad all the time though it does have a shadow over me right now.

And on the next day I saw this in another of my great friend's blog!

The baby is my friend's second daughter... isn't she adorable??? So CUTE!!!

This friend of mine used to work in the same ward with me... but weird enough the two of us had never taken a decent or good "quality" (according to my friend's standard) photo together.... therefore she did this layout using mine and her girl's photo!

Looking at this LO make me miss working with her even more... Many had said that finding real friend at work is something very rare... so schooling friends are the most precious. This I agree. Nevertheless, God was really good! He blessed me with a friend whom I've enjoy working with...  At work, we are colleagues who can work well together... On personal ground, we are friends who can share thoughts and feelings. How I look forward to a day where we can work together again!

Some time... You simply need a nurse to understand how a nurse feels at work right?

    Alright! Till next update then!

  • Leaves over!

    Tuesday, Apr 7, 2009 12:43PM / Members only

Well 9 days are over before I know it!

Started to be annual leave for 9 days since last Monday...

    Started with the agenda of:

    1) A 2500 words assignment due on Fri

    2) A promised visit to a dear friend's house and have fun with her girls... and play with her scrapbook equipment.

    3) My buddy coming back finally!

    4) A short trip to Batam with my good old friends!

    5) A wish to watch a movie

    6) To buy a cover for my Samsung Omnia Hp

So I spent the first 3 days of my AL rushing my assignment and submitted it on Thursday (Was so sick about it... and the topic of transformational leadership... till i simply submitted it without much editing )

Thursday was spent doing nothing much... submitted the report... do a little shop... ate dinner by myself... before heading home to rot somemore

Friday...i finally went to my dear friend's house! Her kids are really cute!!! and so so so active... especially the elder one! the small one is so "ba ba" haha... and she likes being lift up high in the air, and then down! (End up with arms ache the next day! I'm really getting old.. considering the fact that i didn't really lift her that many time  heh heh!)

My buddy came back on friday too... and made all sorts of changes to the trip that we are supposed to go the next day... hee hee... but I was so "blur" and did not check my Hp.. so all changes was made before I realised it.

Sat and Sunday, we went on the Batam as planned but 2 hrs late! It was a nice trip... my arms was still aching and after an hour of jet skit... and being throw into the sea once... how i wish I can temporarily remove them for that night! (SO ACHING PAINFUL!)

The night's dinner was quite nice... but kinda of salty (too much MSG). and learned a new card game from one of my friend...(Oops.. forgot to ask her what's the name of the card game )

The next day we went for foot reflexology massage... Not too bad. But the massager appeared to be tired after finished doing one of my leg . Nevertheless... he did manage to finish the full routine. And it was not as painful as i thought it might be yah.

The day ended with a seafood dinner after coming back to Singapore... two of my friend's husband came to pick us up... and the main dishes for the day was huge crabs!

And lastly, yesterday which was Monday... I caught a movie and brought the hp cover for my hp!

So my agenda for the week was all fulfilled by yesterday!

As for AOB (any other business),

    1) Update my blog

    2) Do a bit of research for my next assignment

    3) Brainstorm for ideas to be included in a session where I am supposed to share with patient's relatives in 2 weeks' time. The topic is pretty tricky though "Communication with dying paitent"! Kinda of stuck loh! Wonder what am I supposed to share about??? Any suggestion anyone? heh heh

Okie... enough for now... better start on my second AOB for the day!

Praise the Lord for the fulfilling week!

  • 3 months post lasik

    Wednesday, Mar 18, 2009 4:30PM / Members only

I went for my 3-month post lasik review today...

Waited 10 minutes for tests to be done... did the test in 5 minutes... waited for another 5 minutes to see the doctor... Saw the doctor for less then 1 minute!

I asked how's my eye sight and was told by the staff who did the test that it is 6/6... then the doctor says 0/25 or 25/0 (can't remember which one he says)... so I asked him what it means. He said it means "can't be any better."

There will be no follow up from now on... anything just need to call up to make new appointment.

But seriously... I find that I seems to be able to see better with my glasses and my eyes did not get tired as easy back then. Or maybe I'm just too used to having glasses?

I just hope things will get better yah!
