Sylvia Rorem aka "achillesgirl" is a freelance writer and editor. She is moody and opinionated, and loves Hong Kong cinema, kung fu, action and crime cinema, pitbulls and subtitles. She is a California native and resides in San Francisco.
achillesgirl is currently having a great time writing and editing for HKCinemagic.
I've been writing some reviews of a couple Shaw Brothers flicks for HKCinemagic.
Now that IVL has stopped distributing Shaw films, FUNimation offers several good (and a bunch of so-so) flicks. A lot of Westerners don't have a copy ofBastard Swordsman, which is pretty tragic. It's now available through FUNimation, so if you like old school wuxia craziness and haven't been able to see this movie, you might want to pick it up.
You can read more old school HK film madness on achillesgirl in actionlandand on Heroic Sisterhood, where the ladies and I hang out and shoot the stuff about Asian Action Cinema.
Which is really a girl's best friend: liquid eyeliner or a spear? Shaw Brothers classic The 14 Amazons has heavy doses of both and is now available in the US!
