Yesterday, the Alivenotdead.com team and some friends and AnD artists climbed aboard the S.S. Minnow and sailed out on the Ocean Blue (well, more like a deep green because of the pollution). Hong Kong is insufferable during the summertime EXCEPT for boattrips and beaches which are a godsend in the heat, humidity, and stench of downtown Hong Kong (which is pretty much ALL of Hong Kong since it's so crowded).
As per Alivenotdead tradition, we encountered stormy weather as soon as we set out leading to some exciting moments like rolling seas, a flash storm that I got completely engulfed in, and slipping off the boat at the end and nearly getting crushed between the boat the the dock. Fun times!
In celebration of the CRAPPY Hong Kong weather (bring me back to California Summer!), I've created a smooth-groove video playlist of my favorite summertime lovin' music. Summer music has to be smooth-groove -- like rolling down the Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur (which is unfortunately engulfed in a firestorm right now) with your windows rolled down and wind blowing in your hair...
Or music to kick back to with a cold beer and good friends at the beach over a BBQ grill...
*sigh* I miss perfect California weather...
In the playlist:
1. "Summertime Lovin'", M-Flo Loves Ryohei and Emi Hinouchi: My new favorite summer time groove music...
2. "Summertime", The Sundays: An oldie but goodie from high-school and still makes me want to do cartwheels in the park. Anyone else remember this song?
3. "Doin' Time", Sublime: Best and smoothest backing track... Sublime can be hard, profane, but this time they're just smooth...
4. "Summertime", DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince: Yeah, this is an obvious one, but this is still their best work...
5. "Wouldn't It Be Nice", The Beach Boys: Pet Sounds rocks and this is the best track on it...
6. "D'yer Mak'er", Led Zepplin: The sweetest of all of Zepplin's songs and another smooth track...
7. "Could You Be Loved", Bob Marley & the Wailers: It's really REALLY hard to pick just one Bob Marley song, but this one is the smoothest one ... And it wouldn't be summer w/o some really REALLY good reggae.
Vivo's got some great picks! My first thought is "Cruel Summer" (either version will do....). Thanks for not drowning on that trip although I understand that Patrick almost did! =)
Well, we just survived the last 2 heatwaves about 2 weeks apart here in the Bay Area if it helps :-( My beamer was reading 115 and it was only 11:30ish and drop quickly to 65ish the week after. Strange that it doesn't feel like summer yet though :-( So you definitely didn't miss anything Stephen...nice photo :-)
Wendy just blogged about The Sundays recently and I've been listening to them alot again since. "Summertime" was such an awesome song and so captures the fun spirit of the season. Makes me wanna do cartwheels too! I love to to listen to Blur's "Leisure" album and the song "Crash" by The Ocean Blue when the weather is warm.
