I wanted to try as many different foods as possible in Sydney so when I saw this sign @ Jimmy's Recipe in The Galeries Victoria claiming to serve the BEST LAKSA in Sydney I just had to try it.
I ordered the Prawn Laksa and within a few minutes after ordering and paying for it I could take it with me to my table!
I never had Laksa before but after hearing my sister rave about it ever since she got back from one of her trips I was eager to try it. It looked amazing but it tasted rather bland and it wasn't creamy or spicy at all so I was a bit disappointed. I guess I'll have to find the best Laksa here in Shanghai then.
After the Laksa I decided to refresh myself with a smoothie from BOOSTER! Very nice and they have a branch here in Shanghai too!!!
In the evening my sis and I went to see a friend's cycling competition @ the Velodrome.
He won both races that he competed in WHOOHOO!!!
The next day we did some shopping @ Bondi and took a stroll on Bondi Beach late in the evening.
The perfect way to end a nice evening at the beach: FISH AND CHIPS!!!

The next morning we got up early to check out the Kirribilli market and it felt so much like we were in Holland because we had Turkish Flatbread!
And DUTCH Poffertjes with Ice cream and Banana. Totally forgot to take a pic of the poffertjes but they are basically small pancakes with butter and powdered sugar. I even tried to speak Dutch with the owners but they could hardly speak it anymore because they moved to Australia almost 30 years ago.
After that we took a walk around the area.
The residence of Australia's prime minister in Kirribilli was open for public so there was a long queue in front of it! They do it every year to raise money for Australian charities.
Game Night! With Pizza and Homemade Cookies
These were sooo DIVINE ;-)! Mrs Fields Cookies you've got COMPETITION!
And WII Sports to burn of the calories ;-)!

@ Martin Place where they filmed scenes of one of my favorite movies: The Matrix!
    Yep FOOD again!
Pho...not nearly as good as the Pho in "Pho Real" on Fumin Lu 166 in Shanghai!
Go and try for yourself when you are in Shanghai!
My Friend's Mighty Angus Beef Burger from McDonalds!
I tried to be more healthier that day with my Sushi!
Ok busted!...not completely healthy. Coca cola and Fanta Slurpies!!!
But here I PROUDLY present my Vitamin Fix for the day!!!

Taking the bus to Balmoral to check out the beach!
Hmmm this kinda looks like "..." .
Australian people like their funny ads: "Make more of Hay..."

    Snack Time!
A crunchy bar with red dates and pecans! Yum! Must be healthy ;-)!
    Hehe...
the famous 32 CM Ice cone @ Korea Mart in George Street! Must try when you are in Sydney!
    Gelatissimo!!!
I looove Red Beans! So I had to have this too!!!
    YUM!!!

In the evening our beautiful friend Alaine took us to SALSA Night!!!!

The next day we all went to try the famous Pie @ Harry's Cafe de Wheels in Woolloomooloo! Here's a pic of the Woolloomooloo Bay and the Finger Wharf! Which apparently is the LARGEST wooden structure in the world!
Harry's Cafe de Wheels! A must see tourist attraction!
The Famous Tiger Pie with Peas, Mash and Gravy!!!  So DELICIOUS!!!
OK...this blog has made me hungry again so I'm going to take a foodbreak! But don't worry I'll be Back with more foodpics !

Have a lot of catching up to do!!! I went to Sydney a few weeks ago and I have so many pics to share! So here's my trip in Photos ;-)!
    OFF to SYDNEY!
Arrived late in the evening! So cool to see the Opera House in real life!
My jaw dropped to the ground when I looked outside my window the next morning! Not only did I have a perfect view on the Opera house but the sky was so BRIGHT and BLUE. And I could ACTUALLY see the clouds!!! It looked photoshopped!
In Shanghai it's just a big mass of smog and/or fog!
Taking a walk on the Harbour Bridge.
    @ Chinatown
Went to check out the Opera House and they already had a Celebration for Chinese National day! Thousands and thousands of Chinese people...felt like I was in China!
My sis was in heaven because she's a choco addict and there's chocolate everywhere in Sydney! She bought almost 10 packs of TimTams!!! And they even have chocolate cafes!!!
Here she's grinning in front of Guylian cafe!
    Some other chocolate cafe
@ Queen Victoria Building for some shopping!
    Aboriginal Art!
YUM! There's always room for Chocolate Mint Ice Cream!
    Cupcakes galore!
The next day we went to the Sydney Fish Market for some delicious Fish and Chips!
    Soft Shell Crab!!!
    Mixed Seafood platter
I love watermelon and before we went to Sydney my sis would always tell me about the huge ones in Australia and that I would love it! And she was right!!! I couldn't carry the big ones so I bought the 1/4 size haha!
    Taking the ferry
    Meatpie for breakfast!
My sis and I @ Luna Park!
    Taking the ferry again!
    Bye bye Luna park!
    The monorail
    @ National Maritime Museum!
    Quick dinner!
    Muffins!!!
My blueberry muffin! It was whole grain so it's kinda healthy ;-)!
    @ Museum of contemporary art!
This is almost a food blog! I couldn't help it. Temptation..everywhere!
If you ever visit Sydney you MUST go to MAMAK for some delicious Malaysian food! This restaurant is so popular. You can't reserve a table and there's always a long queue!
A mix of coffee, tea and lime!
    Roti!
    YUM!
After dinner we went to LNC Dessert House! Also a must visit!!!
    So much choice!!!
We went for the Black sesame and Green Tea Ice cream!
    And the Mango mix!!! De-li-cious!!!
Wraps and Apple crumble tart for breakfast!
After I took this pic the window went down and this 12 year old kid started waving at us ;-)!
My sis and I @ the Art Gallery of New South Wales
After that we went to the Botanical Gardens
    Yikes! Bats everywhere!
Cute! A small tree...almost just as small as me ;-)!
From this side the Opera House looks like three helmets!
    Luna Park @ night
Many more pics to share so watch out for the next blog!!!
  • Keep an eye on what happens above you!

When I was walking home this evening after some grocery shopping I saw all these policemen and one of them was putting tape around some stores because the ceiling in front of a store collapsed. Not sure if anyone got injured but it was  still quite a shock to see it because I walked RIGHT underneath it just an hour before!

Ever since I got here I’ve been wondering how safe all the new buildings around my area really are because they are building them so fast!

Just when I moved into my new apartment I saw a lot of workmen down the road breaking things down and within a month there was a brand new gas station  and a new branch of a bank. It felt like they appeared out of nowhere because it only took them 4 or 5 weeks to break the place down and rebuild it into something else! In Holland it would have taken them YEARS!

And now I’m only talking about how FAST they are building them! (A good example of too fast is the Shanghai apartment building that collapsed in June)

Don’t get me started on the quality because there have been so many negative reports about the construction industry in China and that they are using material that have failed quality tests (For steel material only it’s already 50%!!!).

WHY!!! are Chinese people so fixed on QUANTITY and not QUALITY!!! . It's scary to think of all the disasters just waiting to happen.

Sigh…now I not only have to do a 360 degree vision check while crossing the road but also have to keep an eye on what happens above me!   +  +  =

Some personal advice: ALWAYS check the quality when you plan to rent or buy a new place in China...and...avoid tall buidlings.

Hi Li-Hong! Sorry for the late message, I've been back to the U.S. the past few wks. Yeah it was great meeting you at the AnD party too! Thanks glad you like my photos! :) Which camera did you buy? Just keep practicing and practicing and have fun with it... the good thing about digital cameras is that you can always delete anything you're not happy with. ;) Hope to see you and Li-Tong back in HK after I return too. Take care!
