thank you for support from AnD crew for showing up at the saturday cliq event - i didnt win - haha - yes i did don a red bikini but within 5 mins of trotting around half naked in the dark it was painfully obvious that "bikini top" competition was interpreted by others as "less cloth more skin" - *ouch*

am not really all *too* upset *now* but boy i was pretty angry - and i wasnt about to bare my buttocks for all to stick circle-shaped stickers on - (kinda feels like a piece of product with someone sticking an expiry date on you...) ANYHOO...

so that little upset happened, i was more upset that i got all my mates to turn up to support me but i got a little surprise in my inbox to make up for EVERYTHING...

incredible and talented AnD official artist Catherine Grossrieder aka CathLove immortalized me as a caricature!!!

ASIANS ANSWER TO JESSICA RABBIT!!! hahaha!! MOVE OVER BUNNY! THE SKY IS IN EFFECT!

isn't that amazing??? i've always been in awe of artists who have the ability to create images and visuals - remember my previous blog about photographers? ADD GRAPHIC DESIGNERS TO THE LIST!!!

so im back to smiling again and looking at the world and life with bounce back in my step *:)

and i cant wait to see kate & re:flex at speak up! event tomorrow!

    xxx

I don't know what to say except after watching yamimak's video about this, I felt a little bit grossed out.

Now I'm not the type of person who a) likes to judge others and b) likes to spoil others having fun, but I do believe there's a fine line between enjoying yourself, and how you conduct yourself in life in society. To me there's a fine line that you just simply don't walk across.....and it just seems this event has gone over both.

I now find we've all become such an Americanised society (in HK) that even some of the basic 'Chinese' ethics like decency and respect, seem to be lost. Think about it. Now that video of Yami's was broadcast on Youtube for all to see. If you show that video out into the world..which is what its doing..what do you think it is telling the world outside? Its telling the world in some way....that modern Chinese people....are cheap. That they have no sense of moral. That as a foreigner you can stick a sticker onto a Chinese girl's breast and she'll be ok. This is what that video 'perceives' to me. Add into the fact that you Sky, are saying you didn't feel comfortable about baring yourself in this....that to me says all about what this event represented. We may have won $10,000 at the contest.....but we lost a heck of a lot more in the process.

Ok, in our modern society we're talking about integration, and integration (according to what I've seen) means we are now a global society, East merging with West and that some of our past cultural customs/inhibitions/ideals should be dropped as a result. Because we need to be more 'open' and more 'friendly' in our attitude...and not so backward - this I agree with. But I see this 'integration' sometimes going a bit too far. For example, I come to HK after 30 years, and all I see now is HK girls only ever wanting to date a foreigner! Well I guess I am lucky here cos I am a foreigner (technically!) who looks Chinese but has Western values. But for most HK parents it must be an uneasy experience. To see their only daughter...their only flesh and blood and line of kin...prefer to be with a guy from the US than to be with a guy from HK....what's it gonna do to the local gene pool in HK especially when EVERYBODY is going to do it? I feel there has to be some redress here.

Now don't get me wrong....I'm not saying Chinese people shouldn't date Westerners or that I dislike foreigners dating them, as I come from a family who are of mixed race (half my dad's side of family is now married to English women). But its because I know and I understand from both sides what this sort of relationship entails that is why I mention it. In the short term being together it was love and happiness, but in the long run there are cultural habits and differences which you will eventually wish was present in your partner. Like....you may like to eat rice, but your husband may not or vice versa - and its this difference in value which causes pain. Because you are still Chinese underneath it all.

If you can accept it, accept these differences in value by all means go for it! But I have seen my Chinese uncles married to my English aunts (for years) pine for broiled soup, salted fish, Chinese preserved sausages and rice!

Back to the issue of morals in the bikini contest.....truth be told I love my brothers and my sisters - to me that is all what you guys are (regardless of colour). I like to see people be happy, have fun and enjoy their life and I also don't want to see others get hurt. But I feel, we should think about these things sometime, and ask ourselves is what we do, morally right in the bigger context?
