Before heading home, I was at a nearby supermarket to do some groceries shopping when a baby girl of a few months and her young mum caught my eyes. I do not normally see mums moving around with a young baby without diapers bag or a pram.
While shopping, I praised the baby for her cuteness. Her mum has a look of uncertainty on her face and was probably at the supermarket out of desperate need to cook something for her baby and probably ran out of stuff at home. I made the conclusion as the afternoon heat was quite unbearable to carry a baby around to do grocery shopping. We checked out at about the same time and as I was heading back to my car, I asked if she needed a ride back home. I observed that she came in a taxi while sipping my tea in a cafe a few shops from the supermarket so she would need transport back.
Being Singaporeans, most of us are quite reluctant to accept random help from people especially strangers. When she accepted the ride, I was pleasantly surprised. During the ride back, we chatted and I found out she used to be a church goer and is now struggling with her young baby, She used the word "fear" to be alone with her baby. Out of concern, I suggested she consider joining a young parents support group and pray about her "fear". I also pointed to her the church I am worshiping which is just within walking distance from her home.
I would not have done this random act when I was much younger when I was probably more concern with what others think of my out of norm behaviour. I guess I am now in a season of my life when I am able to read things better and hopefully able to sense the needs of others around me. While I may not be able to do much, at least I can pray for them and make myself available to be used as a vessle by the Lord according to His will.
