I don't think I can be more excited about this trip! Partially it's because I'll finally be going to China without my parents for once, and the other part is that I'm going with the most wonderful companion.

If any of my friends happen to want to come join us for any part of this trip, here's our current schedule (ver 0.5). Please come join us! The more the merrier!

    So, the basic plan:

May 15 (Tue) - Arrive in Beijing
Meet a bunch of Matt's wushu buddies and my friends, go visit some tourist places, shop, find a good spa and stay in it forever, party, and dance, preferrably all night!!

    May 19 (Sat) - Matt's bday.
What should we do in Beijing for his bday? Any suggestions? HELP I don't know what to do!

May 21 Mon) - leave for Guilin by train

May 22 (Tue) - a day in Yang Shuo 阳朔
Go on the river, look around town

May 23 (Wed) - a day and a half in Xing Ping 兴坪
Go on Li Jiang with our private rafter, and catch some fish at night. Relax and relax and relax.

May 24 (Thur) - back to Guilin, then train to Shanghai

    May 25 - 28 - Shanghai
    Meet Matt's step-bro and then... ? Suggestions?

May 28 (Mon) - leave from Shanghai back to the states..

I highly recommend Homely Roast Duck Restaurant on Chao Yang Men Nan Xiao Jie ... the best duck I've had in Beijing (and I've eaten at like 2 dozen duck restaurants, both expensive and cheap).  You can get a roast duck for about 50 - 60 RMB that would easily feed 2 or 3 people.

It's easy to know if you have the right place because it's the only Duck restaurant (or restaurant perdio) that I've seen with little people working there (i.e. midgets).

It's also right around the corner from Dragon Foot Club, which is my favorite place to get a massage in Beijing.

For really good yang ro chua'r you should go to bei hai bei men ... Wu Di knows the places that are good over there.  The whole Hou Hai Jiu Ba area has lots of good lamb stick stands, and nice little bars to eat them at while you listen to some music or drink a few drinks.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE Peking duck, almost as much as I love 煎饼果子 (Jian bing guo zi) and 羊肉串 (grilled lamb on a stick)。But I'm not sure if people know what those are. Especially the first one is only in Tianjin. But thanks for the recommendation, Jen, we're definitely eating Peking duck!

hey Sharlene! when you and Matt are in Beijing, you should check out "Beijing DaDong Roast Duck Restaurant." Their website is www.beijingduck.com.cn. Best friggin roast duck i've ever had...grease dripping off golden, perfectly crisped duck skin.  mm-mmm
