I LOVE MY ROOM! I have a row of windows on Percival St and 2 more on Russell St, right at the corner of Time Square (a busy, ultra-convenient shopping area). For all the constant traffic here, pedestrian and auto, it's surprisingly mute. Here is the view out my windows from left to right (I'm sure you can figure out which view I let my parents see).

My landlady was kind enough to buy me a new bed with drawers! So the old sofabed is now my couch, and the furniture in my room is mostly complete! After spending over an hour, I am now a Grandmaster Furniture Juggler (the bed and the closet at the foot of it despise each other):

Next steps acquire new chair, some decorations, and the following items (please donate to me if you have a spare =):

Computer mouse and speakers
Desk Chair
mini drawers/desk organizer
shoe rack
desk lamp
(rent)
picture frames and things to put on my wall

I really love my place now.. it is getting more comfortable by the day and I am sure that I will really love staying here. Oh, except for the fact that I have to climb 6 flights of stairs every time I come home. But The Taiyaki makes up for it.

Apartment Found

Yesterday I went apartment hunting. Like Goldilocks, the first apartment I went to was too dirty, the second one too small, but the third one was juuuuuuuust right! And cheap too for its size! I was so happy with it that I pretty much took it right there. It's literally across the street from Times Square and it's got a row of windows and fully furnished. The whole place is 1000 sqft with 3 bedrooms, large kitchen, and a washer/dryer right inside. PLUS it's got a shower that's separate from the toilet--what a luxury in HK! As opposed to this (where my friend lives):

The other room is also being let out at the end of this month. It's decently large too, enough to fit a full/double size bed and still have space for a desk, wardrobe, and walking path (these are all included). Anyone interested, feel free to message me. $4900/mo, $5500 including all bills.

I move in on the 23nd, so let the decorating begin then! Anyone have extra sheets, pillows, clothes hangers, desk lamp to donate to me?

I will take some pictures next week when I move in =)

Having my own place definitely makes me feel like I am one step closer to becoming a HK resident and no longer one of the immediate transients. Although I remain unconvinced that I will ever settle here, I will say today that Hong Kong has its redeeming values. One of the big ones being FOOD. I had cheap but decently good sushi last night at a random sushi place in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST, the first metro stop on Kowloon across from the HK Island itself). That in itself makes me happy =D Can't wait to go to a GOOD sushi place!

Wednesday, I'm getting "the tour" of HK. Definitely pictures to come!

The Beginning

Hong Kong, I have arrived!

And here is the blog as promised =)

Let it be known that we planted this new segment of existence on October 7th, 2008 and gave it a minimum of 6 months to germinate. If germination fails miserably, we shall return to the home planet, San Francisco (hopefully having gained knowledge and experience in failure). If any growth should occur, however, well... you wouldn't want to pluck too tender a tendril, would you?

As for why this experiment, I can only borrow from the gifted Anaïs Nin: "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

Let's hope for the best.
