One of my favorite paintings. This link was interesting. It has a video of the long ago Don McLean song 'Vincent(Starry, Starry Night)'. The video showcases the works of Van Gogh, and the write up compares his life & works with the lyrics of McLean's song:

Last week on "So you think you can dance" one of the choreographers came up with an idea that van Gogh had originally painted 2 people in Starry Night but decided to paint over them. The 2 "people" become upset and set about revenge. I wasn't fond of the dance but I did love the SN moving back drop.

Aww.. thanks for posting that link, Seeker. Watching the video brought tears to my eyes, especially since I've always loved that song. I was always partial to the "Sunflower" painting, and had a copy I bought at a flea market years ago until my youngest son took it with him to decorate his first apartment. I'm sure he still has it out in CO, so I'll send him this link.

And yes, Van Gogh is one of my favorite artist also.

I love 'Vincent', made me quite teary when I first heard it. Van Gogh is one of my favourite artists.

yea, I get the same feeling as JRS about seeing this starry painting and then thinking about scream... o.O

Pretty poignant. Big fan of this painting too. I also make sure to view it when I visit the Museum of Modern Art.

I dunno....whenever I see Starry Night I have this brief memory-problem where I actually expect to see The Scream instead. Maybe they were side-by-side in one of my dad's art books. Sooooo....this always reminds me of The Scream!
