  • J-Epic Starting Line.

    Thursday, Apr 26, 2012 3:17PM / Standard Entry

2 blogs in one just because I owe you.

Get ready for some epic stuff, or I should say J-Epic! Don't forget to check out the new music video I help direct and produce: "We are on the Starting Line."

That explains the title of this blog, sort of.

    So...

March and April just totally disappeared!!

I've been working on tons of videos (2 music videos), a making of (album recording filming)  and dealing with a lot of people and at the same time performing at my father's concert. It was pure chaos!

Want to see what I've been up to? You ready for this epic blog? Alright here goes nothin'

First up!  Prepping for Aarif Lee's music video...or is it Aarif Rahman..or that guy who played Bruce Lee in the film last year "Bruce Lee my brother?"

Whatever, it was a great opportunity to work on a video like this.  It was a collaboration between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Amusic and Fasttrack I just tried to do the best I could to keep everybody happy without trying to butcher the original idea.

Ok ladies, let it out! Aarrrrifff....He was a cool dude on set.  The idea was to just let him feel the song and let him do his thang.

"Don't hand me a mic" Despite all the stands around him.

I brought in Derrick Fong to help out as well.  Looking over the footage for the video, which by the way for the techies, was shot with 2 canon mark 3s and the making of with a Nikkon D4! POWER!

    Having a good laugh.

Derrick and I testing out the Kessler Mini Jib.

Touching and mic'in up Aarif's ass.

The pretty boy in the middle!

I gotta give a heads up and thank Eddie from 24 Herbs for suggestings this studio.  The song has a really laid back, Usher kind of vibe, so rather than shooting at the racecourse I really wanted it darker and in a high ceiling studio.

To marry the video with horse racing I always had the idea to use projection and thankfully the studio had a huge one which saved a lot of time and the pay off was just what I had in mind.

    The final video:

    UPDATE:
    For the China fans:

During that post production I had to run off and film canto singer Mimi Lo.

Great concert she put up.  The making of music video should be up soon.  I'll keep ya'll posted on that.

After filming her it was time for dad's concert rehearsal (which I missed one day, lucky I caught the last day of it)!!

In between the rehearsal and the show I had to shoot this guy! Again!

Aaron Kwok.  As you can see he was always on the phone...he's like texting while posing.

Then its back to the the stage rehearsal for dads show!

This time the sound man gets to touch my ass.  Go ahead. He's even like "Wow"

In my mind I'm thinking "What am I going to edit tonight and work on before this show"

Once I'm in stage mode all my work flies out the window, its time to jam with the family and have as much fun as I can.

The stage for my dad show was more simple this time around, except for that giant ass leopard.  The reason for the one side stage (normally its a 360' stage) was because of the tribute section for my Uncle who passed away last Nov.  The show was really dedicated to him.

Walking to the side of the stage.  I think this is a tad too close to the audience, but during the real show, they loved it.

Backstage we're always goofing around.  This is our photographer Sam who you can thank for having all these pics.

Making a goofy face with Uncle Michael.

The one and only Justin Lim who ripped his jeans getting a little too excited.

    \

In memory of my Uncle.  He always used to make these cheap tee's with his photos, so I thought I'd return the favor back to him. :)

He was also our vip in dad's dressing room.  The smiling face just made my day every show.

Back in the dressing room, chaos ensued:

Getting ready for make up an lots n' lots of family and friends showing up.  Barely noticeable is this man Alvin Wang from Amusic aka Mr. Depp.  Giving me crap about shooting his artist Aarif from earlier. hahahah.

The carebear, chow patty arrives and is in love with Justin.

Simon Yin and Derrick Fong drop by to support my show.  Thanks boys.

Thanks to Clot for the gear: Jeans n' kicks.  The tee is Christian Audiger and the jacket is mercibeaucoup.

We had a special guest show up:

MC Jin with his pretty purple hair. Having him hang out made the experience even more epic...it was J-epic!

HE's a huge fan of my dad...he'll explain it to you.

Meeting my dad...little did he know Jin would become part of the backstage circus and join us every night.

    Sneaking in the photo.

Outside the crowd arrives...it was a full house every night!

Back inside Jin meets up with Uncle Michael and my mom goofing around behind us.

While everybody is chilling in the dressing room, Justin and I escape in the showers and practice our songs...I think he's trying to serenade me here though...

Now, the moment....my mind is blank at this moment and its time to perform on stage.

    My dad doing his thing.

Me trying to make the crowd groove!

    Tribute part for Uncle Ricky.

The show was really great fun and dad did amazing.  The crowd just did not want to leave!

We had some special performance guest as well:

The lovely Kay Tse with Jin still hanging with us. HAHAHA

The lovely Gigi Leung.  She's performed with dad before and last time starred in a music back in 1999...boy time flies!

With that I end on this note:

  • Rainky day today

    Tuesday, Mar 13, 2012 1:14PM / Standard Entry

HAHAH I did not misspell that title!

    Although it is rainy today.

Here's my finished video I shot and edited for a very nice girl with  her new single. Rainky!

The shoot was so quick and I had to do quite a lot of it myself, but anyway, I enjoyed working on it and working with Rainky was easy, she cried on cue! Good girl.  I used the mini crane and the steadicam (would have used more of it in the cut), but had to keep the video commercial and simple.

I'm still working closely with the Hong Kong Jockey club on videos here and there.

I also went to L.A for a couple of weeks to work with Edison Chen who will release a new album.  It was quite a journey and a crazy 2 week non-stop recording.  I was filming the 'making of' and I lost weight on that trip!  I'm dying to share more info, but it will have to wait..for now enjoy this grainy pic.

Now I'm back in HK and getting ready for another round of my dad's show in April.  New songs to learn, a tribute for my Uncle.  It's going to be a touching and a fantastic show.

If you're around, come join us at the beer garden on the 28th at Happy Valley, why? Cause it's Easter Wednesday biatch!

  • 4 Days in Haikou

    Saturday, Jan 14, 2012 2:01PM / Standard Entry

I packed up all my equipment and flew a 1 hour flight to Haikou China...or Hainan island.

The mission:  in 4 days produce and shoot 2 music videos and help with an untitled project that I have to keep tight lip about.

First time to travel like this.  I pretty much brought everything with me including the steadicam and kessler lite jib.  Very scary to bring so much like this.

So we arrived in the Hainan Island in the area known as Haikou.  The crew and artists all stayed at the mission hills golf resort.

    The view is massive!

This is the disneyland for spas.  They have themes and different looks for each spa.  It'll take you days to try them all out.

Check out that link for the different spas.  The CEO Ken Chu was real nice and soon he's going to open up a Lan Kwai Fong with the current owner of the HK one allan zeman. So that means a lot of parties.  I'll keep you guys up to date on that launch maybe we can go have an Alive Not Dead party there.

Kind of felt sorry for this pool cleaner. Wonder if the pay is good.

The crew as we set up for the epic battle between golf carts.  Setting up my mini jib (crane).

    Let's do this!

The amount of time for filming was non-stop.  In between the project, I'm not allowed to talk about, and timing for 2 music videos, it was a fast blur.

This is Mr. Li.  If you're in HK or you have TVB channel, you've seen him around.

And this is Nat Chan...who hasn't seen him?  This picture saddens me cause he's got more hair than me. WTF.

When the hours get long you just gotta have fun.  I was told to go through the obstacle course and I did.  Only after everybody knew it supported my weight the entire group followed...thanks guys.

I have no idea what I'm looking at.  Wearing this steadicam takes a lot of heart and patience.  Wearing it for days, it can wear you out!

There wasn't much time to prep for 2 music videos, so I just did my best to use the locations to my advantage.  This is Rainky, who did a wonderful job on her sad love song.

Also worked with Khloe.  Her song was a bit more rock, so it was all about the night time shoots.

Cave.  Check.  Oil lanterns.  Check . Have the hotel turn off all the lights in this area for us.  Check.
Next step..edit.  Lets hope these vids turn out alright.

    Until then, see ya!

OH yea, a special thanks to CAM SQUARE in Mong Kok Hong Kong.

They have been very friendly and always supplying me with Lens Rental and discount prices on 2nd hand gear.   Bravo to them, if you need the hook ups, find them!!

    Another update:

I made this video back in June of an Australian Jockey getting drunk.  Well, it just hit Australia and is now getting hits since 4 days ago, its averaging about 1000 hits a day.  HAHAH  He deserved it!!

  • Playing with my Kwok

    Tuesday, Jan 3, 2012 3:05AM / Standard Entry

Hope ya'll had a Happy New Year!

Mine started on a high note and almost missed celebrating with the family for the first time. Luckily I managed to meet up with them in time for the countdown.

I've been busy shooting Aaron Kwok in concert and I can tell you his show is insane!! I love the production and his stage is ridiculous!

Tonight's show was the highlight for me as I got a last minute update to charge onto the stage and use my steadicam rig to film him.  It was awesome!

This was my favorite moment (using a wide angle) I was probably just a couple of feet away from him on the stage:

    His stage is crazy!

Worth to watch just for the transformation!

My go pro was strapped to one of these dancers.  Can't wait to see the final footage for the making of!

Thanks to the crew and the kindness for allowing me this to do this gig.

One final shot Aaron giving me this look.  Note to self: Good idea to wear gloves when shaking hands...just try not to have it ripped off!

I think the girl on the very right did it.

    Can't wait to film more!

    Edit: Bonus pic from behind:

    Another update:

Now you can see me in action:
