Giant Dust Ring Discovered Around Saturn

Explanation: What has created a large dust ring around Saturn? At over 200 times the radius of Saturn and over 50 times the radius of Saturn's expansive E ring, the newly discovered dust ring is the largest planetary ring yet imaged. The ring was found in infrared light by the Earth-orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope. A leading hypothesis for its origin is impact material ejected from Saturn's moon Phoebe, which orbits right through the dust ring's middle. An additional possibility is that the dust ring supplies the mysterious material that coats part of Saturn's moon Iapetus, which orbits near the dust ring's inner edge. Pictured above in the inset, part of the dust ring appears as false-color orange in front of numerous background stars.

I first started hearing about this when my son's Cub Scout Den visited an observatory recently. This is truly fascinating stuff!

ahh i've seen this...saturn's other ring is larger than our solar system. truly weird how some small pigment of rock, maybe a grain of sand (in a universe point of view) attract so much dust...they should change saturn's name to dust maid! :)

Just call me Saturn

I live in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Australia (no, I'm not weird or am I?). I love ferrets and golden Labradors, hanging with friends, listening to music and most of all reading. I have a Diploma in Laboratory Technology: Pathology Testing which makes me a fully qualified Laboratory Aide (in other words a lab lacky), I want to be an Ancient History teacher or maybe a lecturer (my friend said I should do that, 'aim high' he said) and I want to travel to Europe and Egypt and possibly to parts of Asia.

I like swimming, basketball even though I haven't played since High School, NRL (National Rugby League) to watch not play, and Cricket I like to watch One Day Internationals (ODIs) especially! I haven't played cricket since High School either.

I don't really have a favourite food as such, I only eat when I'm hungry but I LOVE Asian food, I could live off it...he he...the noodle dishes are yummy. My favourite fruit is blueberries...YUM!!! Give me something with blueberries and I'll be your friend for life...he he...just kidding!!!

As I love books so I would like to work in a bookstore while I save for uni, if not, Australian Customs would be awesome, they pay pretty well! The joy of working for the Government!!!

I'm tall 177cm and for those of you that use the imperial measurements, that's approx. 5ft 10in. I have blue eyes and long, brown curly/wavy hair.
