The best part of my recent trip back to Cali was catching up with my partner in crime, Mr.
Chris Clark. I've know Chris since my freshman year in college and we've been through all sorts of crazy things together. Chris has definitely been the most supportive person in my songwriting endeavors from my One Foot Forward punky days to the acoustic shows we played together around SD. It's always fun hanging out with Chris and catching up with his guitars.....and guns.
Chris playing a new tune he just wrote on his newly aquired Kay mandolin. Check out his new tunes on myspace
here.
This Kay electric mandolin sounds good and looks awesome. This was made by Sears back in the late 50's or early 60's. Check out the tone and volume knobs on the old school a-frame body!
Here's a 1960's Swedish Hagstrom that you don't see everyday. Frank Zappa, Pat Smear (Nirvana, Germs, Foo Fighters), Nick McCarthy (Franz Ferdinand), Hendrix, and Elvis were some of their most notable players. This guitar just looks insane and the details are sweet!
This is a 1958 Silvertone 620 (the poor man's Gibson SJ200). This super rare guitar was made between 1958 & 1959 and plays pretty good. The way it aged gives it a cool finish and makes it sound nice and warm too.
Colvin chillin' out while we were jammin'!

Recently my good friend Jo (谷祖琳) opened her first dessert shop "Xiao Tian Gu" in Tai Hang. So last week before we headed down to the studio we stopped by to say Hi and had some super tasty treats. The shop is located right off the main street and the desserts were great so if you're in the area shop by and check it out.
小甜谷
大坑 書館街 10-11 B號地下(近中華遊樂會)
The 小甜谷 storefront! So fresh and so clean.
The shop has only been open for about a week and it already has some steady customers and regulars that stop by everyday.
I was just gonna have a little bit of the egg dessert but couldn't stop...
I also had to try out the sweet creamy goods.....
and red bean drink......
While we were catching up we were talking about these "life saving pills" that our friend just brought back from Beijing. Supposedly, if you take one right after a stoke or heart attack you have a 98% chance of survival. Crazy!
The new boss!
The first time I met Jo was when she took part in one of my first MVs a few years back. Good times!

Kung Hei Fat Choi! I hope everyone had a great Chinese New Year and got some lucky red packets. We spent the first couple of days catching up with family and then headed off to Macau for a Sam Hui concert. As always it was fun playing shows with my dad and this time we even went down to the Macau fireworks area for some craziness.
The vendors were all lined up and were selling some of the craziest stuff!
Hundreds of people were just going nuts and lighting everything they could get their hands on. It was like the never ending fireworks display!
There was so much smoke from everything that it was hard to breath and red bits of the fireworks were falling like snow!
Kids along with their parents were just lighting the biggest rockets just a few feet away from each other!
Patrick and Scott getting in on the action.
Light it and run!
Check out the footage we filmed on a digital camera. It was so loud that it was like being in a war zone because these huge fireworks were going off just above our heads!
A few minutes earlier at a peaceful rehearsal at the Venetian's Cotai Arena....ha!

Ron English was in town a few weeks ago for the start of his POPaganda Asia tour and had a really cool exhibition, toy signing, and live painting event at Delay No Mall. This was my second visit to
DNM (the last time was when Haze was in town) and it was great watching Ron just chill and do his thing. What made this trip unique was just few days later he had another exhibition and signing for his new "Grin" figure at
Garageworks too.
The POPaganda exhibition features the new Abraham Obama bust along with t-shirts and prints that feature his popular Supersize Me figure and paintings.
Ron working on a Roni Rabbit painting!
After working on the canvas he switched mediums to this model.
Ron patiently signs the newly released goodies.
Some of his previous figures and creations were also on display too.
Next was the release event for the new "Grin" figure at
Garageworks that also featured lots of awesome prints.
The "Grin" was inspired by one of my favorite Peanuts character and they were all sold out in no time. Very cool!
The man of the week: Ron English! We had a nice discussion about music and he told me some fascinating stories about hanging with Daniel Johnston.
The newest additions to my Mong Kok toy store looking office....haha!
The last time we were in Garageworks we went to support
Rozy and
Race's new comic book Orius. It was drawn and created with the super talented
Pat Lee and is available for download
here. Support yo!
Rozy looking like a real superhero!
Pat Lee next to some of his work that is still on display!
