  • The cure for typhoons is live music !!!

    Tuesday, Jul 28, 2009 12:11AM / Standard Entry

Last week while HK was hit by typhoon signal number 9 I thought for sure everything was going to get cancelled but thankfully nobody got spooked and the shows went on.  Big ups to Soler & Swing for doing a great job and thanks to Patrick Lee, Raffi, Ophilia for hooking us up with Fall Out Boy tickets.  Dope!

    TheStayUp @ Twitter

Fall Out Boy at the Venitian Macau.  Apparently they didn't fly in from Shanghai until later that afternoon so we weren't sure if the show was still on until the last minute.

Patrick Stump can sing like there's no tomorrow!  They sounded pretty good live.

Pete Wentz getting all hardcore and personal.

A little bit of crowd surfing went on but I think if they had the show in a smaller venue they would've been more crazy.

This was my first time watching Mister.  They did a good job opening and will be playing with our good friends Rubberband this friday.

On the way out I bumped in to FOB drummer Andy Hurley!

The night before while it was still typhoon signal number 3 we saw Eric Kwok and Jerald Chan reunite as SWING.  They played a bunch of new songs, some old favorites, and had Conroy plus Alan Tam join in.  Check out their new album that comes out next month!

On the way to Swing I got a call from Soler's Dino who said they were playing The Underground around 11:30pm so afterwards I stopped by.  The guys played a six song set and got the crowd jumping while the weather got worse and tuned in to typhoon signal no.9!  Good times.

  • San Diego, Smores, and Robin Williams !!!

    Friday, Jun 19, 2009 6:34PM / Standard Entry

Last week I flew back to San Diego to for a week to renew my driver's license and to catch up with some good friends. I had such a blast and was so tempted to stay longer but I had to be back in the studio the next day. Good thing because my In-n-Out everyday diet was gonna kill me after another week....haha!

Back in the old stomping grounds..SD represent!

Sunset Cliffs is always one of my favorite spots in the world to just sit back, reflect and relax. Thankful for another year of blessings and safe travels.

Made a new friend while going to dinner in Pacific Beach. Not too often do you see a pig checking out the surf.

You know I gotta have my In-N-Out..

Valerie and Chris supporting my hamburger addiction!

I should film my own version of "supersize me."

While in town I looked at some Sphynx kittens to see if I can bring back a little brother for Kingsley but no luck.  Maybe next time.

A highlight of my trip was going to my favorite club the Casbah and watching The Lemonheads and Fluf rock out.  I've seen so many cool bands play here so it's great to be able to see a good show while in town.

Fluf opened and killed it.  It's been a while since I saw them play and its always fun watching O and Brad.  Last time saw them was when Reeve Oliver played the Casbah three years ago.  If O looks familiar its because he's been in some of the coolest projects over the years and he was a awesome photographer at Transworld Skateboarding for a long time.

This was my third time watching Evan Dando and company play so it's cool hearing the old stuff mixed in with some of the new Lemonheads tunes.  Unfortunately he was a little too medicated to play better than I've seen him in the past.  Oh well.....

The man still plays some pretty cool SGs though.

I also made it to Lestat's to watch the Predicates CD release party and got introduced to Itai by Chris.  Being back in Lestat's reminded me of all the fun times we had playing there years ago. Watch out for the Wet Blankets...they'll play there soon!

Barbeque at Valerie's house! Got to catch up with some great friends and reminisce about the PLNU days.  Good times.

Smores!!  We should make them popular in Hong Kong.  Anyone game?

Before I knew it my week was up and it was time to make my way back home.  On the way to LAX I stopped by Meltdown Comics and while I was looking through a box of back issues I looked up and saw.....ROBIN WILLIAMS! I kinda froze because you don't expect to run into someone like that.  Luckily Mr.Williams was super nice and I asked him about his heart (he recently had surgery), his stand-up tour, and asked if I can get a pic.  What a way to end such a fun trip!

  • Skate First !!!

    Tuesday, Jun 2, 2009 9:05PM / Standard Entry

If you haven't picked it up yet, you gotta check out the Skate First DVD by our good friend Nigel Ong. It features HK skaters teaching you some of their favorite tricks and also has footage of pros that came through town.  The soundtrack includes local artists like Audiotraffic, 24Herbs, Qiu Hong, and myself.  Check it out!!

Nigel put a lot of hard work into this DVD and I think it came out really good.  It's nice to see local skaters and world famous pros hitting the same spots. The biggest trip for me was watching Eric Kosten and Chris Haslam skating with my tune playing in the background.  That's like a dream come true!  I remember watching Ray Barbee in Public Domain back in 88' and thinking how cool would that be to have your song playing in the background.

It's cool watching friends tear it up.

    Here's the trailer!

Here's a couple of "Skate Diary" episodes we did for the public buses last year. Nigel filmed and edited all 16 episodes while Brian from 852/24Herbs, Sam Lee, and Lee Hawk came down to support.

Also huge thanks to Oli@Element for all the fresh new gear.  I've been stoked on their "Power to the Planet" campaign which focuses on using production techniques that are less harmful to the environment.

I also got the new Element X Imaginary Foundation deck.  It's got good pop and a pretty cool design.......

......that's until I went to Mei Foo the next day.....haha!

  • 200,000 !!!

    Saturday, May 30, 2009 8:51PM / Standard Entry

I just realized I passed the 200,000 mark a few days ago.  Thanks for all the love and all support, you guys rock!  I'm finishing up the last couple of tracks for the new album that will be out in September so hopefully you guys will dig the new tunes.  Lates...
