Better Late Than Never

The familiar cliche,"Better Late than Never" had more meaning than ever for me last weekend.

I went out of town to visit a relative and then heard that another relative  was making a life-changing commitment on Sunday evening. She is 85 years old and decided that she wanted to embrace Christianity and was going to be baptised.  Among her 4 children, one had become a Christian more than 30 years ago.

What had caused her to change her mind, after many occasions in which her daughter had asked her and she had refused to, so different from the traditional Chinese worship? She said she had much difficulty kneeling to pray to the many gods and so asked about the other faith. A long explanation by a trained church worker caused her to say yes four months ago.

When I met her that evening, she was beautiful, beaming with joy, so drastically different from the last time I saw her, some 5 months before. (She was then a thin old lady who had been afficted by a kidney stone for several months.) She even had courage to stand up in a crowd of some 70 persons and spoke of her decision and also to say that "I hope all of you who are not Christians to accept the same faith and be baptised too." Wow!

What a wonderful experience it was  to see a 86 year old take  the bold step into a new life. Joy indeed!

Matthew 16:26

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

1 Corinthians 15:20-22   But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
