  • Massa & the Ferrari accident

    Monday, Sep 29, 2008 3:22PM / Standard Entry

Poor Fernando Alonso. Poor Nico Rosberg. Poor Lewis Hamilton. Poor David Coulthard. Poor Kimi Raikkonen. These folks did an AWESOME job at the recent Singapore Formula One. Unfortunately, they were all overshadowed by what happened to Felipe Massa.

Yes, the incident at the Ferrari pit stop during Massa’s time was HORRIBLY sad and unfortunate. But I find that, in a race, there will always be unforseen circumstances. I sympathise with Massa’s situation. BUT I find that the fact that he didn’t try his best to move up the charts, and actually clocked a 1m55s lap was not worthy of sympathy at all. Fellow Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen came up 13th after the safety car issue and fought his way up all to the 3rd place, before dropping back to 5th due to the pit-stop he had to make.. Yes. He did crash in the end but he moved up 8 places based on his skill alone. And he did have the fastest lap.

Hamilton fought a good show too, trailing from 8th place and finally securing third in the results. Not forgetting Rosberg was given a 10s penalty for pitting when the safety car was out, and still managed to clinch the second place.

What about the champion? Fernando Alonso might have been benefitting from Massa’s unfortunate incident, but would he have maintained it if not because he had the skill and the experience? Don’t forget he had a 21s lead in front of Rosberg before the second safety car came out. 21s is enough for him to make a pit stop and still exit the the pit lane leading the pack.

All these, overshadowed because the Ferrari changing crew made a mistake.

  • FormulaOne - Qualifying Round

    Saturday, Sep 27, 2008 10:44PM / Standard Entry

Hamilton is not cutting it so far. But it’s only Q2. He’s known for being really ruthless on track, and aggressive even if he’s on a bad performance patch. I think he’ll make it in to the final race with no problems. But it’s hard to say if he will win the race.

At the moment, i’m still rooting for Massa & Kovalainen. Raikkonen is not doing consistently but seems okay so far.

Alrighty people! Who wants to watch the Formula One race LIVE??? You can watch about 1/3 of the course! All you have to do is BRIBE me and I’ll bring you up to my office for an exclusive look at the F1 race!

I’m not kidding! I’m listening to test drivers work the track right as I’m typing this! The engine zoom can be heard from the 32nd floor of Suntec Tower 3, loud and clear!

Now, THAT’s getting me excited about the race. Maybe I should stick around till 10pm tonight!

  • [Food] Pho Hoa

    Thursday, Sep 25, 2008 11:17AM / Standard Entry

Now that I’m back working in Suntec, there’re some lunch joints that I quite liked that I can go again. One of it is Pho Hoa. It’s simple & casual Vietnamese noodles, Pho.

And it’s Healthy! Relatively healthy I mean. It has no MSG (at least I don’t get thirsty after a meal here) and it really does serve tasty stuff.

This is a selection of your normal Pho. Nothing fancy, just simple steak, brisket & meat balls combination. This time round, I ordered the Pho Tai Bo Vien, or the steak & meat balls combi.

While waiting for my order, I read a book. =) My Vivienne Westwood wallet has been complaining that she has no screen time on my blog so here it is.. Hope she’s satisfied.

Decor at the place is really very simple, but because it’s got large windows, it’s nice and bright, which is a trait I like when I eat. I prefer to see what I’m eating thank you very much.

Look closely and you can see the steam from the soup. I love hot soup especially when you’ve spent half the day in a freezing cold office. Always a huge welcome. I also like that they have kept the steak half-raw, because the hot soup will cook the meat just nice in no time. Giving fully cooked meat with the soup would make it overcooked by the time we actually eat it.

Close up of the soup. Look at the steam! And the thinly sliced beef! The meat balls are quite big too!

The real good stuff is this side plate, where there are bean sprouts and chilli. I love the chilli paste. It’s not too spicy yet gives a real good flavour to the meat. The chopped chilli has too many seeds though. Small complaint there. And because I LOVE BEANSPROUTS!!! (Okay I know I’m a little whacked) So I requested for more beansprouts and my noodle turned out like this:

    Where’s the main dish? Haha.

There’s another dish I really like here, which is the Carrot Beef Stew. The stew is thick and the beef chunks are tender and just nicely cooked. You could get the stew with bread or pho. I’ll take pictures the next time I visit Pho Hoa!

  • Singaporean women more dominant?

    Wednesday, Sep 24, 2008 5:23PM / Standard Entry

I was having a chat with a colleague of mine, who’s from Hong Kong, about how Singaporean men have to go through 2 years of army, wail about the torture and after that, it’s all they talk about for the rest of their lives. Then he mentioned something that got me curious. He made a comment that this could be the reason why women seem to be the dominant gender in Singapore.

Naturally I was intrigued and pressed further. Turns out, it’s the little things that seem to jump out at him that made it a little different.

    1. At the restaurant, it’s almost always the women who will ask for a table, make the reservation, speak to the waiter, give the orders. Men just stand around behind the women and basically look silly. In Hong Kong, men are expected to do all the work and women are supposed to stand around and be served like a princess.

    2. Shopping. He is continually baffled as to why do shop assistants pass the shopping bags to the ladies when it’s clearly the man who has just paid.

His conclusion? It’s because the men had been through 2 years of army (paid no doubt), serving the nation and it’s interests. During those 2 years, women have grown more in-tune with the world outside, and the men are still stuck 2 years behind. Or maybe they are so used to being bossed around in army that it’d become second nature.

Honestly, I never looked at it this way. Curious ain’t it? How people of another culture view ours.

Now I have to pay more attention to couples when I go out.
