If you know what Shōjo, Shōnen, Hentai, Yaoi means; if you know all the characters in Naruto and their special moves; if you know every single one of CLAMP’s works and how they link up, then Anime Festival Asia 2008 is exactly right for you!

A pre-event for the Japanese Creative Centre, which is scheduled to open next year, Anime Festival Asia 2008 is set to bring you the best and the funkiest manga and anime in town!

Following the success of the inaugural Toy & Comic Convention earlier this year, Singaporeans will get the chance to experience Japanese pop culture, again! Occupying Suntec Convention Centre’s Halls 403 & 404, Anime Festival Asia will be bringing 5,000sqm of Japanese pop culture diversity! From manga to toys to world renowned animators and directors, AFA promises to be 2 days of pure fun!

I’m viewing the website currently and though there’s not much confirmed information, there’s enough to make me excited! The area will be divided into 6 thematic regions, or 6 experience zones as they call it. Namely, Akiba Town, Anime Live, Anime Blockbusters, Industry, Mangaka and Planet Mech.

Akiba Town. Very likely the most crowded and the highlight of the whole festival. Goods to be sold here! Collectibles and game releases will keep your wallets real flat.

Anime Live will be showcasing exclusive Anime titles from Japan, character shows, cosplaying and featuring renowned directors. At the moment, KOJI MORIMOTO has been confirmed as a speaker! He’s directed some MVs such as GLAY’s Survival and Utada Hikaru’s Passion.

Anime Blockbusters will show visitors behind-the-scenes of blockbuster animes. Learn how they conceptualise and plan the storyboard, how they design the characters, as well as background, props etc.

Industry sharing session will be going on here. Will be interesting to see how relevant players in the manga/anime sector feels about the future of this form of art. I’m feeling the decline of manga’s popularity but it will be good to hear what the experts say.

Mangaka’s page has not much information other than that they will be showing manga art related stuff..

Planet Mech is, in essence, a BANDAI showcase. They will be bringing in exclusive toys (wonder what those are..) and various other activities and challenges!

I think I’ll have to bring some extra cash when I visit the AFA08!!!

    I can’t wait!
