so ... ya, this movie got at 94% on rotten tomatoes.  and everyone says it's the best thing since sliced bread.

i know everyone's going to think i'm crazy, but ...

to be honest i didn't like it that much.  i think i'd give it a 6/10.

i didn't realize they switched out katie holme's character.  i kept wondering where she went.  then i realized about halfway through the movie that maggie gyllenhaal replaced her.  and not to say she's not attractive, but ... she's not quite katie holmes in the "cuteness" department and she doesn't seem like a match for bruce wayne or harvey dent at all.  so that sort of threw me out of the movie a bit.

the other thing is ... batman's one of the less interesting characters to me on screen.  i love him in the comic books ... well, at least some of the comic books.  but on screen he just doesn't do it for me.  batman begins was pretty good, but the rest of them i wasn't crazy about.  if i want to see a superhero movie, something like iron man, x-men, spiderman, or superman is more my thing.

the movie's also really long.  like ... it felt like two movies.  sort of like pearl harbor.  when you think the movie is going to end, it goes on for like another hour.  seriously.  there was a point when i was like "ohhh.  they're setting up for batman 3!" and then a few minutes later i was like "oh wait, no.  they're giving us batman 3 now".  spiderman 3 had the same problem.

and i guess my main complaint is ... it's too dark.  and those aren't really the kinds of movies i go out of my way to watch.  i never watched "se7en" even though everyone says it's a great movie because ... that's not my kind of movie.  i like stuff like ... iron man, hulk, kung fu panda, etc.  and this movie is not like those movies.  it's really, really dark.

that being said ... i'm not saying it's a bad movie.  i thought all the actors did a great job.  heath ledger was an amazing joker.  and it's a good take on the joker and batman.  but ... i guess it wasn't totally my thing.

I agree 100% haha Maggie is not hot, i thought the movie was ending when it was actually ending 30-40 min later...but you have to see those darker movies that are as i call them "downers"...seven is one of them...Old Boy from Korea as well..

"i would have liked to see some of that incorporated into the movies.  they always seem to focus on his money, gadgets, and fighting."

    touche :)

perfect. i not see one fan mentioned this. perfect.

what makes this batman begins and dark knight a great success is that it is a batman "adult", realistic. So I am sad when I see people speaking ill of the films that did tim burton. It seems that the fans not like the old films because they were so "magazine, cartoon". The important thing now is to be "realistic"

you think the superman in a new film would turn the earth again? I think not, because the fans want something "realistic"

the truth: movies about heroes are getting tiring. someone mentioned that the batman in this film shows how he, being a hero, it does appear villains ... but this idea has been used many times. is tiring. a good movie, but it is not the film that I will spend my money. I prefer see "grave of the fireflyers - hotaru no haka."

The fashion in films of super-heroes now is to make the hero is almost a villain, tormented ... christian bale spoke that the batman is not tormented in a magazine, he is only once in graphic novels.

I loved Kung Fu Panda. Watched it at the theatres with mum and sister. We all loved it. Can't wait for the Cantonese version to come out on DVD so mum can really understand it - there were some hilarious lines which she would have loved had she understood them. I didn't feel the need to translate though, cos it's a hilarious film without needing to understand the lines.

Hmm while none of the movies really show his great detective-ness this one definitely had more of it than any previous Batman film.

And to Joanne, I dislike when comic book movies aren't serious heh.  Although Hellboy fits with a comical tone, I still think it has a lot of serious parts in it too.  But I wouldn't want to see a non serious Batman, Superman, X-Men etcetera film.

I loved the film, but yeah I agree with your comment about Batman being the best detective. That doesn't really come out in the films at all. It's more like James Bond in a suit...

one other thing i forgot to mention ... in the comics batman is a genius.  that's why he's also known as "the world's greatest detective".  i would have liked to see some of that incorporated into the movies.  they always seem to focus on his money, gadgets, and fighting.

it's had mix reviews here. I quite liked the last one, but to be honest I like comic book adaptations to not be so serious. Hellboy to me was a good example how adaptations should be done.

oh yes... heard the critics say it's a really dark movie and you leave the cinema feeling sort of unsatisfied with the ending... apart from the stunts and the car (the goddamn CAR!) the movie is too "dark" ...

    Wait a minute...
You're not even a fan of "Batman: The Animated Series"?  Bruce Timm and crew did an amazing job on writing for this series.  I think Heath Ledger was pretty on-par with Mark Hamill's performance as The Joker.

I agree...Dark Knight really was not the best movie, but I liked it. There were times when I was thinking....WTF? There's more?

[there was a point when i was like "ohhh.  they're setting up for batman 3!" and then a few minutes later i was like "oh wait, no.  they're giving us batman 3 now".] - tht just solved my issue with spidy 3. i knew there is something 'wrong' about it..hahah! good one.

still, i anticipate to watch Dark Knight at IMAX! :P i will see what's my experience will be.

same as link, i only like first batman with michael keaton n jack'o' nicholas'o'. i think michael keaton play the best batman. later on...george clooney and val kilmer? oh pleaseeeee *roll eyes*

The opening sequence, which was second-rate Michael Mann, felt like it belonged in a different movie, as did the Joker's philosophy experiment toward the end.  Also, I agree with you that there is no fucking way Harvey Dent and Bruce Wayne would be fighting over Maggie Gyllenhaal.  I'm not much of a Katie Holmes fan, but she's way better-looking than Maggie Gyllenhaal.  However, all that superficiality aside, my biggest issue was the fact that the film peaked early.  SPOILER ALERT.  The midpoint, wherein the Joker escapes from police headquarters, was far better than anything that occurred in the last act and, for me, that's a huge problem.  And last, but not least, Nolan did a weak job of closing the show.  The way Batman left the Joker hanging there, quite literally, was pretty lame.
