so i was catching up on my blogs a few days ago when i happened on scottie hui's blog: it's a spur thing.  in it, he linked to an interesting looking game called "dad 'n me".

i thought ... wow, those are some interesting graphics, so i click on the link to go check it out:
    http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/254456

the game is pretty fun, but kind of short.  as far as i can tell, it's only one level long.  the boss took about three tries to beat, but eventually i figured it out.

so ... because the game was so short, i started poking around newgrounds to see if there were any other games that might be interesting.  one of the highest rated games on there was a game called "gemcraft".  the name sounded interesting so i clicked over to check it out.

omg that game is pure evil!!  it's super addictive!!!  it's basically "desktop tower defense" (which sucked up about 2 full days of my life) on crack.  i started playing the game around 2am or so.  the next thing i know it's 2pm THE NEXT DAY!  12 hours of my life GONE in an instant!!  when i finally tried getting up my knees, back, elbow, and wrist were all cracking.  it actually hurt to move!

the most dangerous thing about the game is that even though it's a flash game, you can actually save where you left off!!  in those 12 hours it looked like i made my way through about 25% of the map.  and judging by how much harder the levels were getting ... i figure if i let it, it'd suck away about a week of my life.  and normally when i start a game, i usually just play like crazy to try to finish it as soon as possible so i can move on with my life.  that's why i never touched games like world of warcraft since they have no ending.

in this case, though, i have too much work to do to lose a week on a game.  so after realizing how addictive it was, i started a new game and resaved over my old save games -- going from level 34 back to level 1 in the process.  hopefully that will help me resist this game.

ok, ya ... just wanted to share that.  but ... if you have a week of time to kill, click on this link and check it out:

Sorry if I made you waste precious time.  I haven't played dad n me for so long, I can't remember it too well.  I'll be sure to get back at it as soon as I'm done with these freakin' crazy games.

oh that Dad & Me is quite evil,I only played for a few moments, decided to have a look at gemcraft,  it reminds me of an old spectrum game and I can't remember what. Anyway yeah, popup games can be very addictive.

Seriously?  You write all that and then tell us not to go there?  Thats like posting "whatever you do, don't think of a blue elephant!".

I'm not going to go, because I have other things to keep me busy (like searing pain in my feet and an inability to walk).  Plus I have this thing called "self control" ... at least where video games are concerned ...

I guess we all have our weaknesses.

So I guess the moral of this story is, friends don't let friends play gemcraft?
