Synopsis:
TALK RADIO
By Eric Bogosian
A Dark American Satire
‘’Talk Radio is a 1987 Pulitzer Prize-nominated play written by Eric Bogosian, based on a concept by Bogosian and Tad Savinar. It centres around Barry Champlain, a Cleveland-area radio talk-show host on the eve of his radio show's national syndication. Champlain is a provocateur shock-jock, whose constant espousal of his inflammatory views and ceaseless hectoring of his callers and listeners reaps equal parts love and hate. Thousands of listeners tune in every night for his rants against contemporary America and the riotous insults he throws at callers. But on the other side of the microphone, the line between persona and personality becomes blurred. The play becomes less about the program and focuses more on the inner struggles of its host and how he has become incapable of connection beyond his phone lines, beyond the persistent calls of his eccentric, foolish, often adoring, often despising but never indifferent, listeners – beyond the people who allow Champlain to, as his operator explains, think of himself as God.’’

ufoArtgalleryTranslated from Japanese into English, 'Nana-mi' means 'Seven Seas' - the title of the first Hong Kong exhibition by Japanese Australian Artist, Nanami Cowdroy. 'Seven Seas' is a introduction to Nanami's artistic expression and showcases a selection of mixed-media pieces & exhibition prints, featuring her signature themes - Goldfish, Koi, Origami Cranes and Urban-scapes washed together in one space. Drawn from the inky shores of her subconscious are a pool of exotic creatures, inner city chaos and quirky characters - illustrated meticulously through her distinctive, visual style. A black & white exhibition, set within a sea of grey.
About Nanami:
Nanami Cowdroy was born in Sydney, Australia with close bonds to her mixed Japanese- European heritage. Growing up with such contrasting cultures and surroundings, has greatly influenced her style of art and creative expression.
By intertwining complex characters and highly detailed objects, her pieces reflect a juxtaposition between foreign and familiar entities and environments. Her imagination is illustrated through works that are both elaborate and exotic, suggesting themes of memory, transience, hope, and loss. She is drawn to subjects, which may on the surface seem delicate or fragile, but are given depth and a sense of permanence through her pen and ink techniques, intricate hand illustrative style and mixed media compositions.
A self-taught artist, her meticulous signature style embraces a refined monochrome palette with her name 'Nanami' (meaning 'Seven Seas' in Japanese) stamped in red. Fluid linework, spots and splatters, watery whimsical creatures and Goldfish are some of her favourite subjects, and distinctive forms featured in her emotional artworks.

All Asian Digerati,
It's coming to the end of a very long and interesting year and Web Wednesday Ventures, founded by Napoleon Biggs, is moving to Backstage for their final gathering of 2009.
For the night, there will be a special discount of HK$40 per standard drink, plus Backstage is offering 2 Free Admission Tickets to our live music shows (regular-price of HK$180 per ticket) as one of the Web Wednesday lucky draw prizes.
Guest speaker for the night will be Christian Cadeo, Head of Brand Advertising for AdMob, who've recently been bought by Google for US$750 million to help extend their advertising empire into the mobile realm. (Google was struggling with AdSense for Mobile). Admob has also just released interactive video ads for the iPhone, which were used by Microsoft to launch Windows 7. See a video demo on the Web Wednesday blog (webwednesday.hk).
You can also sign up for the event on Facebook, LinkedIn or via Web Wednesday's blog.
The mixer will kick off at 6:30pm and wind up around 9:30pm, with the interview at 7:15ish. So get your phones out and text in the flash mob!
There will be a HK$100 entrance fee, including one complimentary drink. The lovely assistant from Web Wednesday, Vivian, will issue receipts if you need one. (For students, you can get in for HK$50 without free booze). Thereafter, all standard drinks will be charged at the special rate of HK$40 each.
Web Wednesday will donate 10% of entrance fees to a charity, and are thinking of Operation Santa Claus, but if you have any better ideas do let them know.
It's the last Web Wednesday networking event of the year, so do come along and bring a friend who's been curious but has never quite made it. We're certain to have a good mix of people from all walks of the local and international Internet community.
If you missed it before, please RSVP to let us know if you'll be coming to our 31st Social Mixer: Facebook, LinkedIn or via our blog.
Looking forward to seeing old faces and meeting many more new ones.
