    dead or alive

    CURRENT RATINGS:
FRESH: 8/10  8/10 Movie: DOA: Dead or Alive (2007)

actually, i realized i can just copy over the movie ratings i make on rottentomatoes. so, i'll use this site to handle movie ratings in the future (and also put a copy on alivenotdead).

anyways, we just watched "dead or alive" at the office. umm, i thought it would be terrible, but it was actually a lot better than i expected.

it's surprising that they didn't release it in theaters in the US. if they could release "street fighter" and "mortal kombat 2", they could have released this. i think it could have made its money back. i mean -- how many copies of the "dead or alive" games have they sold? pretty much everyone that bought the game would probably go see it.

storyline and acting was about what you'd expect. but a lot more fighting than i expected and the fighting was pretty good, too.

what a great way to celebrate the launch of the site --  dan wins best new director, everyone performs together at the awards show, a sweet after party dinner, and after after party at conroy's pad.  didn't get back home until 6am or so.  just got up and came to work now.  =)

  • the hk film awards

    Sunday, Apr 15, 2007 9:26PM / Standard Entry

just got back from the hk film awards.  so tired.  we were there from about 2pm all the way til 9pm.

what an crazy awesome experience.  going through the red carpet.  watching the interviews.  performing in the background for our "best song" performance.  i might be biased, but i think our act was probably the most interesting part of the awards ceremony.  the crowd seemed to really get into it.  i hope someone taped it cuz i'm really curious how it turned out.

dan ended up winning "best new director".  we found out just as we were all getting ready to go down to perform.  our whole group was whooping and cheering like crazy.  tonite's after party is going to be crazy.  my liver is scared already....

here's a picture from our rehearsal the night before.  remind you of anything?

  • going back to the usa

    Saturday, Apr 14, 2007 12:20PM / Standard Entry

ok, it looks like i'll most likely be going back to the us.  right now just trying to figure out the ticket situation and also trying to figure out how long i will be over there.  there's the vc film fest in la which is like asian american film festival in sf.  that's from may 3-10, so i'm gonna try to hit that up.  but then there's also the asian excellence awards on may 16 in la.  dunno if i can/want to stay in the us that long.  traveling around is tiring!

what else?  oh ya, the site is live (duh!).  big thanks to stephen, boon, eric, edward, mark, jojo, xiao bu dian, and terence for all their hard work getting this all together!  it's a bit buggy right now, but it will get better fast.  and we've got a whole lot of new artists and new features that we'll be adding soon.

my friend jack is visiting from the bay area.  took him around last nite.  since terence was working, had a lot more trouble getting into places.  still, i think jack was able to get a good idea of what the nightlife is like here in hk.  sunday going to have an after party when the hk film awards are over.  that should be pretty sweet.  =)

  • another chapter (almost) closed....

    Monday, Apr 9, 2007 11:19PM / Standard Entry

went back to xiamen this past weekend to move out of my apartment there. the past three months i've only been back to xiamen a total of about 5-6 days, so it's a total waste to keep renting a place there (even if the rent is cheap relative to hk or the us).

so, the past two days just been packing up stuff like crazy. ended up giving a ton of random stuff to my maid and jimmy. jimmy also bought all my electronics (printer, dvd player, xbox, games, dvds, etc), which saves me the hassle of trying to bring everything over. even after getting rid of a ton of stuff, still have six bags worth of stuff to bring back. luckily jimmy is heading to hk tomorrow and is bringing two bags over for me.

feels weird to move out tho. i've been in that place for over a year now. now i'll probably only be back to xiamen maybe one weekend every month or two. i guess another chapter of my life is closing and a new one (in hk) is beginning....
